dusk0405 Posted February 20, 2025 Report Posted February 20, 2025 is this a bug or intentionally designed game mechanic? having this issue a long long time ago and this is common enough to not ignore, and is yet putting me off because without the mod that is making this "feature" off, calcifying flint is a torture and wasting too much charcoal.
Thorfinn Posted February 20, 2025 Report Posted February 20, 2025 (edited) I think it's intended. It's worked that way for quite a while. Another alternative (because Improved Firepits introduces some different unintended consequences) is a new mod that quadruples the fireclay output from calcined flint. Seems overkill to me. Doubling would be more than adequate, I would think. Edited February 20, 2025 by Thorfinn
Dilan Rona Posted February 20, 2025 Report Posted February 20, 2025 https://mods.vintagestory.at/betterfirepit Give that one a try then @dusk0405 1
dusk0405 Posted February 20, 2025 Author Report Posted February 20, 2025 well, thanks for the solution, i have better firepit mod installed in the time i was asking this, i asked because im just curious about why the mechanic is there

poncho Posted February 28, 2025 Report Posted February 28, 2025 I think this should be fixed. With this mechanic, I have to heat up a bunch of flints and then put them into firepits one by one to save coal, which is counterintuitive and unrealistic.

That's just it. I don't think it's broken. It's kind of like sticks rarely falling when you chop down a tree. The point was to incentivize you to make shears or do something other than just go chop down trees and build up massive quantities of sticks.
Zane Mordien Posted February 28, 2025 Report Posted February 28, 2025 I wish it would cook 3-4 at a time instead of 1 at a time. Maybe lock that ability behind iron tools, because for me the new mechanic is just there to slow down progression a little bit. Once I have iron I feel like it should release me from that mechanic a little. Digging up fire clay and making bloomeries was pretty easy before. Now you have to explore and find it or make it yourself.

There is no other reason I can come up with to change how it worked. The beauty, though, is that it is so easy to mod that I can think of at least a couple already, one of which says it does exactly as you wish -- 4 at a time. If you think it should remain as is until your first iron bloom, fine, just add the mod once you iron.

More of a nice to have improvement, but if they don't think it is necessary I'm not that worried about it. I usually find a mountain of coal anyway. I think they need to add more to the bronze age to make it worth doing as well to slow down progression a little bit. I don't want it to be a nasty grind, but it's a little to easy to just skip bronze almost entirely by just making an anvil and 1 pickaxe.Â
Never Jhonsen Posted March 1, 2025 Report Posted March 1, 2025 Ignoring Flint, the firepit resetting it's temps has been an issue (in my eyes) for a long while. I remember a time, much like how some YouTubers have done it, having to make 20 something fire pits just to create mortar. A nightmare Ever since I found out about that Better Firepits mod, I installed it and haven't looked back.
