CastIronFabric Posted February 26, 2025 Report Posted February 26, 2025 (edited) I wish the feature for world creature aggression had a bit more options. Basically: I do not want to be fighting wolves while exploring or staying inside during night but I DO want caves to be a risk. Maybe just make monsters respond if attacked. With aggression off even a fox is more dangerous. Edited February 26, 2025 by CastIronFabric 1
Chiaro Posted March 6, 2025 Report Posted March 6, 2025 Yes, I wish bears and wolves would be less aggressive than what they are at the moment. The first thing I saw in my first game was a black dot fast approaching me; it was a bear. The second or third attempt I was ganged up on by wolves. After not too long I turned off animal hostility, but it feels a bit like cheating. Bears don't usually come running after anyone they spot in the wilderness, usually they run away. I know the game is not a Real Life Simulator, but creature hostility could need a tweak imo.
Thorfinn Posted March 6, 2025 Report Posted March 6, 2025 It's not exactly cheating to turn aggression off in single player, or even on your server. It's true that you are not getting the Vintage Story that Tyron intended, but you can always work your way up to it. There will be things that make you scratch your head, like when the lore book tells you that animals are now much more aggressive. There are any number of other potential solutions, like increasing your own HP, reducing monster strength, changing your relative movement speed, etc. And we have not even started talking about a modded experience. Just changing the challenge settings, I'm pretty sure you can take on a brown bear with nothing but a flint knife. No fancy footwork, no strategy, just mano a, uh, bearo.

I think having all hostile creatures (specifically monsters) attack you if you attack them is a good middle ground for the 'passive' setting. As it is, I can go deep into a cave without armor and just do what I want but inversely I do not want to be attacked on the surface by wolves etc. That is my view.

Isn't that how passive works? Granted, I've never tried it, though I have watched over someone's shoulder as he played on passive*, and that's what it looked like. [EDIT] * I might be mixing up non-hostile and passive. Edited March 11, 2025 by Thorfinn

Tyron did say in an interview that they would at some point update animal reactions to be more realistic, but they would still be aggressive overall. I got the impression that meant bears and wolves wouldn't necessarily attack instantly but have some warning reactions first. But that is just my interpretation of what he said and its not implemented yet.

I have been attacked a few times in passive and at first I thought I step on their toes or something but I noticed a few times when I didnt. So, word the the wise in Passive Mode, still watch out a bit.
