Feycat Posted March 10, 2025 Report Posted March 10, 2025 Is anyone else having this? The whole game will lock up and have to be closed via the Task Manager. I'm getting a couple of these every play session. I make a backup EVERY time I start playing now just in case the world corrupts.
Zippy Wonderdust Posted March 10, 2025 Report Posted March 10, 2025 The top 3 reasons I can think of that your game would be misbehaving like that: Old drivers. Are all of your drivers, especially your video card driver, up to date? Overheating. Are you playing on a laptop? If so, is it properly ventilated? Try elevating it so that there is plenty of clearance around all of the vents. Bad memory. Vintage story will, within reason, use as much memory as you can give it. Perhaps it is using a memory location that is failing but that is not used by any other apps you run. If your computer has a built-in memory diagnostic app I suggest you use it. If not Memtest86+ is an excellent free 3rd-party tool. Is your computer running everything else flawlessly or are other apps acting buggy too?
Feycat Posted March 10, 2025 Author Report Posted March 10, 2025 Yes, everything is up to date, and I'm running a very need-intensive mod collection on Skyrim, which is famously terribly optimized. When a block game is crashing more than Skyrim, something's definitely wrong, LOL
Zippy Wonderdust Posted March 10, 2025 Report Posted March 10, 2025 Huh. Well all I can say is that my copy of the game (on Linux) is running flawlessly.

There are a couple others that we've chosen not to include because they were causing issues, but I see most of them have updates. Now some of the guys running only 16g have reported problems, but so far it's always been running out of RAM because they left browsers open.
Zippy Wonderdust Posted March 10, 2025 Report Posted March 10, 2025 @Feycat Have you checked the game's log files? Any clues there?
Dilan Rona Posted March 10, 2025 Report Posted March 10, 2025 My game does the same, only i managed to pin point it to the memory demand that all the mods make. Which unfortunately exceeds my 8Gb my laptop can provide, so I had to pair down a lot of my mods.
LadyWYT Posted March 10, 2025 Report Posted March 10, 2025 Have you tried doing a complete reinstall of the game? It never hurts to try, just in case something's gone wrong in the main files somewhere. The other thing I'd check is your modlist, if you are running mods. If it was running fine before and you've fiddled with mods recently, it's possible a mod might be causing the issues.
