I'm not trying to start a debate; I'm simply expressing my personal tastes. I respect everyone's freedom: "To each their own style."
My personal opinion is that this game is excellent, but I'm not a fan 😑 of the story with kind of ghost-zombies .
The more I play, the more I think this choice of the supernatural is inherited from the Minecraft experience, and it's a shame because most of Minecraft's choices are in very poor taste, much too carnival-like in style.

I know my opinion won't change anything, but personally, I would have really preferred a story with dinosaurs and prehistoric hominids rather than the current zombies; it would have fit better with the game's wild environment style.

That's it, now I've said it.. ..now I feel better.😮‍💨
Good evening.

If you don't mind using mods, you are in luck. The age of the dinosaur is about to begin.

We (the community) already have two released mods (https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/user/5a00335ba25788911434) and a couple more in development.

Of course there is also always the option to take this as an opportunity to get into modding yourself, adding your favourite dinosaurs into the game, for you and others to enjoy.

While theoretically, technically, practically and all sorts of other -allies, Tentharchitect's entities are no dinosaurs, you might still fancy one or two of his mods: https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/user/2abe1c9265b6b2cfefae

I currently don't remember any "No bowtorn/drifter/shiver" mods, but I am sure they exist as well.

Clarification: I am not involved in the development process of these mods.

Maybe other than 'actual' dinosaurs... It could be a sort of 'fantasy' race of sentient beings like Lizardmens and Beastmen and such that roams and lives in the wilds as tribes?

Would actually be interesting to see a pseudo ingame 'AI' of sorts where they 'observe' you and responds in a curious way to your actions... Like in "The Forest" and "Sons of the Forest"?

I get your point about fitting hostile creatures in the environment, but drifters exist because they serve the lore. I don't know if you have played the chapter 2 of the story yet but it seems hard to me to make something that interesting with dinosaurs. If you haven't experienced the story yet, it's a bit different since that would make one think there is no constraint on what kind of hostile creatures are out there.

Dinosaurs would be super out of place considering VS' lore and worldbuilding.
Drifters and the other enemies aren't just random "zombies" slapped into the game to give it an element of danger - they tie into the lore that runs throughout the whole game.
VS is also not pre-historic. Sure, we use stone tools at the start, but the world we play in is definitely not in/from the stone age, and neither is the player character.

The game has an entire main storyline involving alchemy, otherwordly forces, robotic creations and a terrible global disease.
There are currently 2 out of a planned 8 story chapters in the game as of 1.20, and I can definitely say that VS' supernatural elements are very well thought-out in terms of how they connect to said story and the lore of the world that we play in.

If you're interested though, there are dinosaur mods and such, as someone else has already suggested! 😄

Yeah the mobs we got are vital to VS but dinosaurs slap so hard i wouldnt mind them being in the game too.  Especially if they were fantastical, weird, and fit into the games systems like dropping materials like pelts, scales, ect. for crafting.  Massive and flying dinosaur-like hostiles, neutrals, and farmable passives would be awesome.
