Broccoli Clock Posted March 28, 2025 Report Posted March 28, 2025 (edited) ..and further to that, if that is the case, does the snow slow down animals? I was just chased by a bear (one that seemed to appear from nowhere with no sound, but hey, it's the woods, it's winter, bears get "testy" at that time of year) and while normally I would be able to jink my way out of it, the bear was easily catching me up. I ran under a tree, and thus onto ground with no snow and I sped up, giving a wee bit of space between me and my furry friend, only for that space to disappear as quick as my health as the bear easily two swiped me. I'm not complaining I got merced by a bear, I mean I am... but as I say I should be more careful in the woods during winter. What's more, the bear was probably there already and I missed it, rather than it spawning next to me. You could argue that people, IRL, don't out run bears, so the ending probably reflects that. Was me running on the snow a bad move, it felt like it slowed me down, but I have no way to tell, meanwhile the bear seemed unaffected by the snow, running at a constant speed. Again, you could say, "it's a bear, it's evolved to run over uneven/soft surfaces", and you'd be right. Edit: I was just able to run away from a wolf much easier on ice, which opens up the question does ice increase your run speed, and if so does that count for animals too? Lemonspray55555 Posted March 28, 2025 Report Posted March 28, 2025 I don't think snow slows you but I can say that piled snow can act like a slab and thus if your running through a forest you could be catching more impassable branches to the face.
Maelstrom Posted March 28, 2025 Report Posted March 28, 2025 snow can also prevent you from entering a block, such as leaving a building through a door. I've had occassions where I get stopped when entering a block with a slightly higher level of snow; but that could be an artifact of the StepUp mod I use.
Brady_The Posted March 28, 2025 Report Posted March 28, 2025 (edited) 27 minutes ago, Maelstrom said: but that could be an artifact of the StepUp mod I use. That's definitely not StepUp related. I accidentally created a block-free door by being a bit fancy. I was wondering why I suddenly wasn't stopped anymore. Spoiler That said, I'd absolutely love this mechanic. It'd give the ridable elk another edge and it would be the perfect opportunity for functional gear (snow shoes). Edited March 28, 2025 by Brady_The 1
