Village spawning underground?

Hi All.

After a good 100+ hours on this seed and many many miles of travel I have finally made it to the "village"

The problem is it seems to have spawned underground with just the tip of a single roof sticking out. I cant dig it out either as all blocks in the vicinity "belongs to the villagers".

Can someone please help? I really don't want to start again! Is there a way to reload the terrain or something?

Cheers

Hey BestBread. That's a most curious generation.

I haven't messed around with story locations yet, so this is all a bit theoretical. It's also probably better to store your elk far enough away.

Before you attempt this, back up your world. Better safe than sorry.

  1. Switch into Creative mode with "/gm 2".
  2. Check if spawn is viable with "/wgen story setpos village s[]". Preferably you want to do that in the centre of the village. I suppose you can roughly gauge that by pressing F3 until you are in no-clip fly mode and dip underground to find it.
  3. If it is, execute "/wgen story setpos village s[] true"
  4. A message in chat should tell you now, how many chunks have to be regenerated. Either click the highlighted command to paste it into chat or type it yourself. Example: "/wgen delr xx".
  5. Chunks should now regenerate. Depending on your computer this might take a second or two.
  6. Position yourself wherever you like and switch into survival mode with "/gm 1".

(Probably unnecessary) Extra info:

  •  "/land adminfreehere" in chat removes a claim.
  • "/wc allowLandClaiming true" in chat if land claiming is disabled (should be enabled by default)

Thank you again, Brady_The.

I have input your suggestions.

"/wgen story setpos village s[] true" seemed to come up with an exception seen in the screenshot text.

Regardless I followed the suggestion  "/wgen delr 10". however it has raised the terrain further, and buried the rooftop further.

It seems to be landform issue, this is my fist time using consul commands in VS so I really don't know. Any suggestions to make the landform "very flat"?

That is annoying. You can also try " /wgen regen 1 " when you are at the edge if the village.  That probably won't work but until Brady replies that may be worth trying. That just regens the chunks around you, and maybe the game will autofix it.

Hm, that is odd. Unless you are going to tell me that you are using some landform mod. In that case it could be possible that the mod removes the "veryflat" preset, even though I haven't come across any mentions of incompatibilities or problems such as yours yet.

I can't say that I have the biggest worldgen knowledge. You could try Zane's suggestion.

Maybe there's more information to be found in the client-main and server-main log. They are stored in "%AppData%\VintagestoryData\Logs".

If you do have a mod changing the terrain, disable it and then use the wgen regen command and will restore it to the default terrain generation.  It will make the terrain wonky but it will be accessible.

Heads up for anyone finding this thread in the future, I found this because was having an identical issue.

Unfortunately the offending mod was the 'rivers' mod and the author has been suspended so no updates for the foreseeable.

Thanks for the sleuthing gang!
