thePalindrome Posted June 6, 2025 Report Posted June 6, 2025 (edited) The wiki is very badly out of date, and only references it for the bowtorn and shiver (the Shiver isn't even listed in the hostile entities list, nor the category for creatures), and *seems* to imply that they'll run away, but not specific behavior if they, for example, can't find a nearby cave. I ask because I can't find anything about when `minDayLight` was added as a feature, and have had drifters and shivers utterly destroy me during daylight hours because they just roam around, not running underground or despawning. I mainly ask because a friend is starting the game, and with how awful they make the gameplay experience by just never fleeing, I'm about to tell him to disable surface drifters, even though the rifts are really, really cool Edited June 6, 2025 by thePalindrome Clarifying and adjusting tone, mb >.<
Maelstrom Posted June 6, 2025 Report Posted June 6, 2025 I suspect this quality was added in 1.20 as Tyron added a layering of "dimensions" to achieve certain things, mostly with lighting effects.
thePalindrome Posted June 6, 2025 Author Report Posted June 6, 2025 Fair enough, I went through all the changelogs for 1.20 onwards, but not a single mention of mobs and light, aside from a fix for mobs spawning near light sources (although I saw another thread talking about how mobs were not only spawning during the day on the surface, but even within player view)
Maelstrom Posted June 6, 2025 Report Posted June 6, 2025 I am one that has watched mobs spawn during the day. Recently got mugged by a shiver at midday while roaming the countryside foraging for wild crops.
thePalindrome Posted June 6, 2025 Author Report Posted June 6, 2025 Aye, does someone have a mod that fixes this, or should I tell my friend that he may be best disabling surface mobs entirely? Just seems a huge problem that basically will block onboarding players (as if the wolves weren't bad enough )
Thorfinn Posted June 6, 2025 Report Posted June 6, 2025 The wolves aren't bad. They are just misunderstood. 1
Maelstrom Posted June 6, 2025 Report Posted June 6, 2025 The bears are just bad. They don' like nobody!
thePalindrome Posted June 6, 2025 Author Report Posted June 6, 2025 Hmm, not seeing any mods to try to fix this behavior, can anyone confirm if drifters et al (what is the proper denomonym for them? ) Just properly flee from the daylight now?
