bwoodfield Posted June 25, 2025 Report Posted June 25, 2025 Relatively new to the game and I just started a new world. I've been planting crops as I've been finding them and had a good start with 55 planted. I had a bear spawn near my base and ended up getting killed, but I built not far from world spawn so I quickly ran back and was able to deal with it. I went over to where my crops were and they were all gone. Is this a bug or do bears also eat crops? I don't know if it matters, but I've been placing med fertilized soil into a pond in double rows.
Thorfinn Posted June 26, 2025 Report Posted June 26, 2025 Something similar happened to me once, and near as I can figure, it was probably lightning, since it also cleared out the nearby grass and fences. It must have started raining because the cleared area was touching brush. But I was gone exploring for more than a day. And that should not be a problem for you if you had a one gap filled with water between your fields. What version are you playing? Mods? Rabbits eat crops, but if you were near spawn, they wouldn't have had time to destroy 55. Not with a bear standing guard.

I don't think it was lightning as there wasn't a storm at the time. I had just planted a bunch of pumpkin seeds that I had found in a jar before going to bed, so I know that the crops were still there at that time. I had woken up, walked outside and got smacked by the bear as it came around my house. From that point it was a lot of running around, me dying, and re-spawning about 50 blocks away. I went to go check on my pit kiln when I noticed that everything was gone. Also, I was placing the soil in double rows of 10 with a space of water in between each double row, and the shore is slate gravel, so if a fire had started on one it wouldn't have been able to jump the others. I checked the Archived logs folder and I'm able to find the timestamp where I killed the bear in the client audit logs. However the server audit logs start after that time, like the game over-wrote them.
Thorfinn Posted June 26, 2025 Report Posted June 26, 2025 I agree it's inexplicable. Fire should not have been able to go down those 3 or 4 fingers into the lake, even if grass did spawn in the gravel in the meantime. I don't know of any other reported cases, though I wasn't looking specifically for this last time I looked through the Issues. You could check that and see if there's anything helpful. https://github.com/anegostudios/VintageStory-Issues/issues At the very least, if it's a bug, I'd think its going to be very difficult to replicate. Since you know what you had, I think I'd just /gm 2 it, give yourself the right number of seeds, and call it a day. 1
Maelstrom Posted June 26, 2025 Report Posted June 26, 2025 Herobrine. Definitely something he'd do. 1
