Welcome to the forums! The dialogue you're looking for should be "Know of any interesting places around here?". Selecting it should prompt the treasure hunter to ask for a tin bronze pick in return for giving you a map to the location. If you don't see that dialogue option at all(or any similar option, though I don't think that dialogue has been modified), it sounds like you've encountered a bug and you'll want to consider reporting it over on the bug tracker.

Yeah, having the same issue here. I made a backup before doing it, tried opening dialogue then selling and no dice.

Workaround I had to do was sell the tin bronze pickaxe I made, close the dialogue, spawn another using /gamemode 2 and then /gamemode 1 again, then the dialogue option came up when i talked to him next.

I do have mods installed so not sure if a mod is doing this.

Welcome to the forums! You don't need to sell the pickaxe to progress the quest. You just need to have the tin bronze pick in your inventory(brand new, or at least above 95% durability), and then select the "Know of any interesting places around here?" dialogue, or the "I brought you the pickaxe..." dialogue if you've already asked the treasure hunter about the former. Bear in mind that you need to talk to the same treasure hunter each time for these quests, as story progression isn't shared between treasure hunters(to my knowledge).

In any case, once you select the "I brought you the pickaxe..." dialogue, the tin bronze pickaxe should be removed from your inventory automatically, and the treasure hunter should tell you about the location along with giving you a map to the approximate location of the entrance.

yeah i tried that first, he says bring the tin pickaxe. Then i get the pickaxe and select the same dialogue, i had that pickaxe in the screenshot in my inventory (then tried it in my hotbar, then my hand) clicking the dialogue but he still said to bring the pickaxe. The dialogue only changed after i sold that pickaxe and spawned in another.

I should of recorded it but ah well.

Also thanks for the welcome

I just had the exact same problem. Made a new tin bronze pickaxe, couldn't get the dialogue option. I tried:

  • Quit the game, restart - still wouldn't work
  • Quit the app, restarted - still wouldn't work
  • Mined one item to change the durability of the pick - still wouldn't work

What did work was throwing the pick on the ground, spawning a new one in creative, going back to survival - then it worked.

I just had the exact same problem. The treasure hunter trader will not accept any preexisting tin bronze pickaxes; he'll only take one that was made (or spawned in via creative) after you speak with him.
