Barblegarb Posted July 3, 2025 Report Posted July 3, 2025 In all games and software, borderless windowed (or "maximized borderless" as it's incorrectly labeled in Vintage Story) means that the program will run in a window, in front of the taskbar. The taskbar should not be visible, and the program window is supposed to take up the full screen. Maximized Borderless does not work like this; the taskbar is still visible. How do you make Vintage Story run correctly in borderless windowed mode? Is there a way to manually change the resolution of the window, so that it actually takes up the entire screen?
idiomcritter Posted July 4, 2025 Report Posted July 4, 2025 welcome to the forum @Barblegarb if i'm understanding correctly, F11 controls full window (with no borders), vs a fully expanded windowed view. and its the latter that is still showing the taskbar at the bottom of the screen? for me, I have the taskbar set to auto hide. when I fully expand the window (usually double click the top bored) the screen extends fully to the bottom of the screen. the taskbar will pop up if i mouse the very bottom, and then disappear on moving the mouse away... I know there are softwares out in the wild that can improve on this, havent try any though
BinToss Posted August 18, 2025 Report Posted August 18, 2025 F11??? I've been trying to use ALT+ENTER which is what most games (excluding Minecraft) use to toggle fullscreen/borderlesss-fullscreen. 1

Krougal Posted August 19, 2025 Report Posted August 19, 2025 If you hit F11 it will switch to fullscreen, regardless of what you set in settings.
Ryilo Posted August 19, 2025 Report Posted August 19, 2025 Yes, "maximised borderless" doesn't cover the windows taskbar, while it should cover it. "What if I need the taskbar?" you may ask, well it should show by, for example, pressing the windows key (or ctrl+esc) to show the start menu, then hidden again as soon as the game regains focus. There are also other problems when using multiple screens and having other apps open. 1
LadyWYT Posted August 19, 2025 Report Posted August 19, 2025 Welcome to the forums! Have you tried Maximized Borderless + Always On Top? That setting should hide the taskbar, but let you click off to a second monitor without minimizing the game.
Ryilo Posted August 19, 2025 Report Posted August 19, 2025 The problem with "Fullscreen + always on top" is that if something opens on the main screen where the game is running we can't interact with it. I get that it's a major problem only for those who are recording or streaming, nonetheless... Not being able to see the source code I don't know if the game is not using the SetWindowPos method or if it's using it with the wrong window size, or if it's using something else so I don't know how hard it is to patch it. 3

Thank you.
Ryilo Posted August 22, 2025 Report Posted August 22, 2025 A correction: it's unintuitive, but try this: load the game, set it as "Windowed". It appears in a window, it not what we want, but: leave it like this, close the game and reopen it, it's now windowed fullscreen borderless as I wanted. 1
Captain Pizza Posted September 13, 2025 Report Posted September 13, 2025 That did not work for me unfortunately. Are there any other solutions or mods for this? I'm actually surprised this isn't fixed as it is such a common practice in games and by how many times I see people posting about it. It may not seem like it, but it is actually pretty frustrating to not have this option.
Ryilo Posted September 13, 2025 Report Posted September 13, 2025 It's still working for me in 1.21.1. Take a look at clientsettings.json and make sure that screenWidth and screenHeight match your screen resolution, example: "screenWidth": 1920, "screenHeight": 1080, "gameWindowMode": 0, "windowBorder": 0 ), I have noticed that the first time I installed the game it wasn't set correctly and the window borders where showing. 3
MysteriousStains Posted December 31, 2025 Report Posted December 31, 2025 Where might I find said "clientsettings.json"?
MysteriousStains Posted December 31, 2025 Report Posted December 31, 2025 Nevermind I found it. "%appdata%\VintagestoryData"
