Are you running a dedicated server or are you opening to LAN and letting your friend connect to your local game? Also does your modem have routing capabilities that can be controlled by your ISP? Try connecting to a mobile hotspot (most phones can do this) and see if that resolves the issue!
Zane Mordien Posted July 10, 2025 Report Posted July 10, 2025 Confirm your IP address didnt change (both your internal network and from your ISP)? I assume you must have confirmed that but you don't list it so I thought I would ask. Can you still connect from a computer on your local network?

I'm having the same problem and all of my IP stuff is the same. I can still connect via a computer on my local network but none of my friends can join. Edited October 25, 2025 by CappyA

I have my router port forwarded to 42420 but it doesn't change anything, I've had it this way the whole time I've been playing. I've never changed anything involving settings, port, or IPs. This just randomly started happening to my friends.

I copied this from another post by idiomcritter Make sure you IP address has not changed. (https://www.whatsmyip.org/) and then checking if the port is still open (https://canyouseeme.org/)
Teh Pizza Lady Posted October 26, 2025 Report Posted October 26, 2025 (edited) Also double check that with your port forwarding, that your device's IP hasn't also changed on your internal network behind your router. For example, I gave mine a static IP address at the router so no matter if there's a power outage or something happens it gets 172.16.1.107 as the internal IP. So then I can just set my router to push all traffic on 42420 to that IP instead of having to guess or worry that it might change. Your router interface may vary, but this is how mine looks: These are all internal IP addresses so I don't have to worry about someone trying to browse to my internal network machines. LOL Then for the port forwarding, I have it setup so that all the Vintage Story traffic goes to the serverbox. Edited October 26, 2025 by Teh Pizza Lady
CappyA Posted October 26, 2025 Report Posted October 26, 2025 Okay, so I've done a lot of testing and I have everything set to my internal IP. I've attempted joining through the public IP and that doesn't work so the server is clearly running through my internal IP. I have my port forwarded through that internal IP so it has nothing to do with the wrong IP. I wonder if this simply happens after so much time or after a certain amount of data has been saved. I've also attempted to test the websites that Zane Mordien sent but it all goes through my public IP and the Port check tool just doesn't want to cooperate at all. Also I'm attaching an image of the error that my friend receives when he tries to join if you haven't seen it before.
