So upon finishing the 1.21 update to Vintage Story. I started generating a new map. To get the new generation features. Did some tweaks to world generation too allow more ocean.
And what I got was a world where my start is on an island that you can fully explore in a day.
About a 500 by 300 block size island.
Huge granite desert, medium plains area, and a small mountain that gets snow that I have not explored yet.
My plans for this play through is to not leave the island until I have build a boat then I'll go out and see how big the ocean around my island really is.

Below is info of what I have found on the island and the world generation info you need to create the island yourself if you want to try surviving on the island as well.

Whats I so far have found on this island:

  • Treasure Hunter & Luxury Trader
  • 3 Red Clay Spawns
  • 2 Peat Spawns
  • Surface Copper and Tin are on the island
  • Birch, Oak, Maple, and Pine tree are on the island
  • All the staple grains and veggies for the climate can be found on the island: Onions, Turnips, Flax, Spelt, Rye, Parsnips, etc.
  • All Berry bushed besides blueberry I have found on the island
  • Have current found no fruit trees.
  • Current found about 5 different locations where mushrooms spawn.
  • The only stone type on the island is granite.
  • Animals: Chicken's, Hare's, Raccoons, and I have seen I elk spawn. (No pigs)
  • Many cave and some ruins on the island as well.

One note on the animal that does turn this into a bit of a challenge map. As of the 3 in game month I have been on the island no a single wolf or Bear has spawn. With them not spawning it does make the island quite peaceful, but without them their no easy source for Fat or the bigger hides. Only small hides. their is one save I have had a raccoon drop a fat before so you can save up small hides and get a fat that way to get small pelts.

How much I've died:
Because if it being an island with limited food I have died a few times from starvation. If I recall about 4 times, but I know it would be higher if I didn't died from Bowtorn's shooting at me!
So I say before I got a semi-stable supply of food I would of died of starvation about 7 times.

If you plan to trying this map:

  • First don't cook any of the cattails roots on the island their only about 50 which from one harvest gets you your starting basket but you'll want more for later. If you need foor cook the tule roots their a lot of them.
  • Away remember to break the branches of the trees before you cut them down. Breaking branches has a lot higher chance of giving you seed then cut down the tree.
  • Do share how you do on the island especially how many time you died of starvation. I'm really interested in knowing if someone can be one the island and not die once from monster or starvation.

Here's the World Seed and Custom setting I used.

World Seed: 1899677866

The custom world setting I used to generate the world. As long as you keep the world generation Tab setting the same you should get the same world.

Hey all so I wanted to share my progress in my world how things have been going on the island.
This will probably be the only update I make regarding my world.
I decided to make this update because I just finished my Pine Sail Boat allowing me to venture further into the world. Woo!!!
Making the pine boat took till the end of winter and completing the first flax harvest of the new year. Didn't get enough flax during the first year so had to wait till next year.
Got pictures to go with the following info.
I was able to wrangle up chickens and goats into pens. Goats are at Generation 1 and chickens as generation 2. A bit slow, but it working out.
Got my house that hold all my stuff with a blacksmith and tanning rooms as well. With a cellar and crate storage below. Have a bear pelt rug from the one bear that spawned on the island during winter. A rug felt like a better use then making it into low tier armor. It also look cool!
Got a farm area set up over the winter huge plot for hopefully all the crop I would ever need. A total of 288 crop spots all medium soil. Found a area of medium soil on the island.
Made a little dock area for my boat its small but good enough. Will probably be filled with crates and chests when I start moving stuff.
During Winter I mainly focus on tidying up the island and prepping for warmer seasons. Tried to explore the caves but armor is hand to make their basically no pelts so no lamellar armor, because almost no pelts no leather armor or leather jerkin as well. So all I could make is Cloth Armor from my first harvest I only had enough for a helmet and pants. Which is good, but with no chest piece I still take full damage most of the time. Based on the wiki its a 50% chance to be hit in the chest so a coin flip if damage is lessen or not.
That's all for now. My next post if I make one I think will be after I do both story dungeons. I have not done them yet I've seen the archives in videos. I've also seen the tower, but not the updated version wanted to see if the new version of the tower is better in person before watching people tackle it.
Sign off for now.

Be careful what you wish for!

In my current playthrough I built a water world, along with the Terra Prety mod. I can't export the full map (would love to know a way) but here is a screenshot of a typical area (the  map is as zoomed out as poss)..

mm.thumb.png.10e94709830af6c2a05ada04ab369465.png

The problems arose almost immediately. I had very little land and thus very little resources, one of the things you really need is a boat (not a raft, it'll take real life hours navigating in a raft!) and one thing you need the most of for a boat is linen, so flax, which needs land to grow and in a water world there is very little land and even less fresh water. Even the simplest of things made the start of this world a real grind. Enjoyable, in a challenging way, but still a grind.

You might notice the water colour in the map. I started in a warmer climate, if there was to be a premium on land then at least allow that land to have crops all year round!

Food resources, wood resources, ore resources, all very very limited. Where do you find surface copper in a world with very limited surface? Don't get me wrong, I made the best of it, I struggled and ground out each tiny little victory and by 60 odd hours in I ended up with a very comfortable base (in spoiler).

Spoiler

2025-10-10_09-29-04.thumb.png.c185cda545fd2a9079c6b7d6cec308ec.png

(A little caveat here, I'm not someone who promotes my bases. I know that people are much better than I am, but I have a certain fondness for this base simply due to the limitations of its build. So indulge me this once... thanks.. 😘)

However here is the rub, if I want to do anything, literally anything, I have to travel for it. I was lucky as the small island I finally settled on has some cassiterite and some sphalerite, but little else. Animals spawned only after me living there for a while, so at the start I had to either fish or get on a raft and row hours in game on the hope another (equally small) island maybe had a chicken I could catch.

All in all, it's been an interesting and challenging task, setting up a base out of the most limited resources. However, once the initial rush of the challenge is over what then? I did the Archives run, luckily it didn't spawn in the middle of an ocean, but equally it was not close - being essentially an in game day's sailing. Traders in general are sparse, as you'd expect, and although I have Better Ruins as part of my mod pack (I run a very lightly modded setup) it needs land for it's ruins which as you can imagine is a problem for a water world.

I would certainly encourage anyone to start a water world, but the fun of it is very much the opening hours as the more you get into the game the more you'll get frustrated by being surrounded by emptiness. It's possible, perhaps made more possible with certain mods, but it's a grind and the pay off in the end, and this is just for me mind so your mileage may vary, it's ended up a bit unsatisfying.

Ultimately I have ended up navigating the seas searching for a piece of land that is bigger than 100 block size, settling there, leaving behind my carefully chiselled base purely for the luxury of not having to sail anywhere any more!

So, as I said at the top of this post, be careful what you wish for. I went into a water world without realising just how much of grind it would be, for so little payoff early game, and only once you get a foothold do you realise that all you have ahead of you is grind and travelling. Don't get me wrong, some people will love the challenge, and I didn't dislike it, but it didn't end up how I had envisaged it would from the start.

I'm sure @ArtistCyCu would not only recognise but sympathise with my struggles, good luck with your journey! :)

I tried something like this once, but I couldn't harvest near enough flax to make sails in a reasonable amount of time. The later half of my play through would have been just waiting for flax to grow for at least a year.

That is definitely a bottle neck, as is the amount of rope - which generally wouldn't be an issue but with limited resources, and each resource area some distance apart.

Don't get me wrong, you NEED a boat for this sort of playthrough, but yeah, it's a steep curve to get there.

Well after some exploring I found a translocator on a pretty easy to reach part of the island. I may make this my next playthrough and come back to this.

Just be warned, and you should expect this if you think about it, but with large water worlds, I find most of my translocator's corresponding node is under water, some distance from the shore.

Szkoda, że nie dotyczy tego tematu.

Wygenerowałem  świat wysp i ogromnego oceanu.

I end up making 50 new worlds a day for testing, I found this seed that is in my opinion a perfect island survival seed
1923531161
I changed nothing so a default world on default mode will generate this cool island, all kinds of animals spawn, I've seen bear, deer, pigs, wolves and chickens in a quick fly around, there's fresh water ponds with cattails and when you spawn all you see on your map is this island, there are others around of course but, this is a pretty cool seed!

Ziarno świata to 1160500385

Pokrycie terenu 20%

Skala pokrycia terenu75%

Częstotliwość ukształtowań 60%

Długość i szerokość świata 600000 bloków

Zwiększyłam nieco szanse na występowanie miedzi i cyny

Mod " Pierwotne przetrwanie" daje mi ryby

Mod "Wildcraft" daje mi więcej jagód i jadalnych roślin

Ponieważ na wyspie jest niedźwiedź który zabija mi kury zainstalowałam mod który pozwala mi łapać młode zwierzęta  rękami i dzięki temu mogłam je przywieść na wyspę z innej wyspy.

Mam tez "Wild Farming - Revival"

Tak wygląda wyspa, jest mała ale ja taką właśnie chciałam .

Niedaleko są  2 inne większe wyspy na jednej z nich można znaleźć trochę nasion, na drugiej jest żwirowa pustynia .

Jeżeli ktoś chce to pokaże gdzie.

howdy, sharing a seed from my first ever time playing the game.

image.thumb.png.0d09dea13a8d1f94a049da9fff989f04.png

there are no trees, only Birch bushes really. it also immediately put a temporal portal thing next to me and I lost a lot of if not all of my sanity combined with that and standing near the portal. fun way to play the game for the first time when you have no idea what you're doing. mainland and other islands are not too far, a tree rich one just south. also a severe lack of clay. it's a very painful seed for a noob.
