  1. You can see the stickied official response below with the last update being on 08 Sep 2026 as of the time of this reply.
  2. As of the current version I use molybdochalkos, however you pronounce/spell it. My current world had plenty of lead near spawn, and I like the look of it when hanging off my structures, or up on posts. Once I find an area rich in copper. I switch over to straight copper lanterns for when I'm doing caving, and I want to keep an area lit long-term for return trips.
  3. I'm glad @tiggerbiggo got his refund ask and that it went a good way helping alleviate some animosity. There was actually another gentleman on Reddit that was showing screenshots of them doing the same thing Even after he had already been playing for years with over a thousand hours invested in the game. It was a good PSA for those that felt the studio didn't care, but I'd rather not post his details here because people were flaming him pretty hard about it, but you can probably find it if you search Reddit recently in the last 2 days. Tyron comment in the official response being the below was leaving quite a bit of subtext between the lines. Boy to be a fly on the wall for that meeting. I imagine it was reminding everyone that they weren't random subreddit moderators, they are part of an actual company that provides a product and people are giving them money. c) I will allocate significant funding for the training of better PR/crisis communication with the dev Team and de-escalation training and clearer procedures for the moderation team.
  4. I got 4 yesterday. When it rains it pours! What I really want when panning are gold nuggets and I never seem to get them.
  5. The only thing I'll add to this thread is this image below. That is an acknowledgement of the false positives. If you have a list of other Mods that were not mentioned and affected, I would like to see that list. However it looks like again, this didn't bring down even 1% of the mods, but it did affect a few very popular ones, which were acknowledged. But I echo @Teh Pizza Lady and suggest putting any new info in the mega thread before we start getting fractured info again. I'd also urge you to make sure everyone knows the true details. We've already got people circulating that "the devs are putting malware into their game" and not explaining in good faith the nature of the incident on purpose to stir the pot further into more outrage.
  6. For what it's worth I hope you get #1 in the end. It's obviously personally bothered you enough that if they are offering, it should be taken. They did warn that it might take time, has refunds on purchases made so far in the past could come with some difficulty from payment processors. I don't think you're going to get #2, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't renew his contract after this big update. #3 All depends on maturity on his part down the road. Maybe in a few years he'll look back and think "boy that really was a bit stupid" but that's not up to us. This whole thing boils down to you not understanding why we can't see things the way you do. Different experiences mold different people. I've decided to give a little bit more grace on the first go around due to circumstances in my life and colleagues I've worked with over the past 20 years. I can understand where you're coming from to a degree, but we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.
  7. I know tempers are high all around, but "the right thing" is subjective in this case, and ultimate control and judgement falls on Anego. A number of us in the thread here think that the current judgment is good enough as is. I do understand that you and others don't though, and that's ok. Where you go from here is up to you.
  8. The underlined bit from your post above I'm 100% onboard with. My meaning was more of a scenario like: Community members loves current dev who now also starts making popular mods. Said members keeps begging for the mods to be part of the game to Anego. Anego keeps saying no. Said members just won't give up. Other devs internally are like "dude, get your posse to leave us alone lol" Nothing really about the configLib thing, more about inter-team dynamics. All what ifs really, but those always go in 100 directions, but that's a conversation for another thread, I don't want to hijack this one for that topic. Sorry I should have maybe been a bit more clear on that part. I was meaning to circle back to this reference in the official response as well. I'm curious as to the "new internal policies" that will arise from all this will be. I imagine it's mostly about a "do no harm and be transparent" oath.
  9. I'm actually with you on the underlined part a bit. I imagine of another long term dev now became a modder that made all sorts of popular addons that the community loved, but Anego decided that they didn't want part of the main game, and the community was well aware of that aspect, there could be some dicey political shenanigans at play eventually.
  10. As someone in the development and security space as well, you would also know that factual details do matter when filing reports. Again, what reports and evidence do you have about malware being put into the main vintage story code base that made it all the way past peer review? In this case "absence of proof is not a proof of absence" as you so put it actually does matter for an actual investigation.
  11. See this right here is exactly what I mean by misinformation being spread. Can you specify exactly what malware was snuck past code review that was part of the main codebase? To my knowledge and understanding, there was none. The specifics really matter here, because it was a third-party modification to the game that had the crash "feature" baked in if it detected what it considered an incompatibility. This is the thing that's being floated as the malware, and was never part of vintage story proper.
  12. And being banned from making mods and contributing to mods in perpetuity, and having all of his work he has spent an extent amount of time on taken from him and given to others. Don't forget that part.
  13. Eh, I wouldn't say that it's just a minority opinion. There are a lot of mad players out there that are rightfully angry. Now the extent of the anger I feel might be going a little far, as Anego basically laid out they think this has been dealt with, and that segment has some vocal people that do not accept it as enough. What happens internally at this point is up to them, and honestly I don't think we need to know. I'm fine with people being mad about it, there was a breach of trust with a modder, and he handled the whole thing pretty piss poorly with the community, and seemed to have forgotten that he wasn't JUST a community member anymore, he also was contracted to work with Anego, and that comes with maybe a bit more professionalism being expected. A professionalism that was not on display whatsoever With the rapid patches to the server updates put out during this release, there obviously has been issues with cheat mods and people trying to do some junk on multiplayer that is obviously sidetracked some devs over there, and probably frustrated them to a degree that created some grumpy atmosphere internally. Malt saying he did not do it for the community, but because he had it in for those cheaters probably is true in a sense. There were people already working on the actual patching necessary to try and stop them, Malt probably just wanted to shut them down his own way on the side for his own joy of sticking it to them. That last part's all speculation of course, but I've seen stuff like that happen in life.
  14. I can respond a bit from the other side of the debate if you'd like. He is contracted to my understanding to work on the Mod API portion of the game for now, as they wanted his experience/expertise and advisement for the next big update. He is not touching and directly contributing to the core game codebase, and any work he does or might do requires a peer review and code merge. Now as of the punishment, he is basically banned from contributing to the community ever again. All of his popular work is being stripped from him and to be taken over by Anego, and he is banned from ever making mods for the game ever again. For me I feel satisfied with that outcome and I trust the rest of the team. Now will they keep him in his role after all this is said and done? Idk, it's all speculation at this point. I do NOT expect a community message out saying that his contract will NOT be renewed after the next big update is released. On the other hand, internally I would expect something like that to be happening behind the scenes. Does Anego need to publicly list all the MODs that were flagged by Malts efforts in an official statement line by line? Idk, what good would that do at this point? They acknowledged the issue, gave a general idea of how bad it hit the modding scene in terms of raw numbers affected, and said that Malt is never allowed to be part of that community ever again due to his own actions. Do I think his actions were stupid? Yep. Do I think he should be banned from the modding scene after this? Yep, and he is. Do I think that we are maybe overblowing the ramifications and reactions a bit and directing our anger towards Anego because some of us are mad that we can't punish him more ourselves? Also yes.
  15. On a side related tangent, I've noticed a pattern with some in the Vintage Story community as well related to some modders like Saltywater and a few others that made some high quality mods, and showed their programming talent. Once some in the community noticed that some "icons" used ai-generated images, it became almost a crusade by not a small number that they were now slop authors, and their work and morals were now suspect. Every post around their mods had people making it their mission to tell all that would listen of the sins that they committed, and that the mods shouldn't be used because they used unethical means, and was a sign that the work "could" have been partially vibe-coded, and even resorted to personal attacks/insults. The only thing that finally shut that down was them giving in and deleting all previous small uses of ai-generated images/icons, and writing apologies to the community on reddit. What I'm getting at is there is a segment of the community that really has a tendency to try to force others to bow down to their will. This community can seem very supportive at times, but step out of line and you will find the other side very quickly.
  16. I would like to see more expanded uses and need for wine and brews. Let me sell 10L of a certain wine, brandy, ale, or whiskey to a luxury goods trader in a bucket for some gears. Maybe slow down or halt temporal degradation while I'm getting plastered. Getting drunk in the mines let stay down there longer, but the trade-off is the drunk effect, and the resources that go into it.
  17. Hot take coming. I'm actually fine with combat as is. If they introduce a more interesting version I'm ok with that, but I've NOT been a fan of the combat overhaul mod. To me vintage story is mostly avoiding combat where possible. I would be ok seeing some expansion on a more immersive experience, like the blood trails, and what Salty was doing with seeing grass and flowers move when animals are in them, but not the total system overhaul.
  18. I for one am happy this has become the mega thread here. Lots of good info for people to read from the top to bottom. We don't need the loop of. 1. New thread of "Out of the loop, what is this about the devs putting malware in the game." 2. Replies with timeline of events to correct that bit of "misinformation" and talk about the rogue modder, and their current contract. 3. Arguing over definitions, intent, and punishments. 4. Rinse repeat. I may not agree with some of you here, but it's mostly been civil and constructive, and really shows the divide in the community in a microcosm.
  19. Welcome to the forums. To not retread water see my previous comment https://www.vintagestory.at/forums/topic/22429-concerns-about-supporting-anego-studios-further-on/?page=2#comment-120577 Now onto the "bootlicking" part of the comment. I'd urge you to take your own words on the "petty" part and consider that there are number of us that feel the situation is addressed and are willing to move on. "We feel differently about the breach of trust" like you said, and understand that it's ok for us to have that opinion. You are allowed to still be mad about it, but we are allowed to express our side as well. There has been good discussions in the 2 main threads (outside of 1 obvious trollish outlier from earlier) so let's keep it that way.
  20. This game is exactly where I wanted Minecraft to go back when I invested in the early pre-nether alpha days. The studio is doing great work and I'm looking forward to more updates.
  21. Welcome to the forums. Cicadas and icesharkk have two threads with good information in them. Further threads will feed into the problem that happened on Reddit, where there was disjointed conversations and people missing pieces or spreading bad information. There are some good write-ups across these two worth reading, and worth adding to. https://www.vintagestory.at/forums/topic/22429-concerns-about-supporting-anego-studios-further-on/ https://www.vintagestory.at/forums/topic/22417-the-configlibmaltiez-incident-so-far/
  22. Can we please just keep the posts in the other two threads? @Cicadas and @icesharkk have two threads with good information in them. Further threads will feed into the problem that happened on Reddit, where there was disjointed conversations and people missing pieces or spreading bad information. There are some good write-ups across these two worth reading, and worth adding to. https://www.vintagestory.at/forums/topic/22429-concerns-about-supporting-anego-studios-further-on/ https://www.vintagestory.at/forums/topic/22417-the-configlibmaltiez-incident-so-far/
  23. I'd actually like to see if possible that some mounts have bonuses in certain situations. Maybe camels move faster in deserts Maybe elks move faster wooded areas within so many blocks of trees. Maybe horses can carry more than the other options, and get a greater movement bonus on paths.
  24. You have every right to be angry, I just want to start with that, and I completely understand why you feel very strongly about this. That being said, what Diff and others have said is valid as well, there really is no risk of him doing anything malicious to the VS codebase. I understand the reasons he did what he did to his mod library, but I also don't agree with it. I also understand that it was relatively benign, but also implemented it in probably the worst way possible, which also cost unnecessary hair pulling among server owners. The studio has said they aren't terminating the relationship. They are terminating his stewardship of his mods that he spent so much time creating, and he will no longer be able to contribute mods in the future. If you are still concerned that he's going to maliciously sneak things in the main code base after all this, and don't trust the studio at all, I don't think anyone is going to convince you otherwise. They have already stated they aren't terminating the relationship, so this is either something you can live with and keep playing the game and using mods, or you can move on. Once again though you have every right to be upset about this, but I and others are also satisfied that this case is closed.
  25. I do the same thing. As soon as I can get barrels I start filling them with tannin and any lime I can get my hands on. I usually have at minimum three barrels of each liquid available at any time.
