any way to smash chunks without a hammer

I only ever had enough copper for a pickaxe and just barely enough to make a hammer to break chunks down and there's basically no copper nuggets in my area so what do I do?

Pulverizer might do it, but I've never had a reason to try that and you very likely wont have one.  You'll either have to find more copper nuggets on the surface, or you'll have to pan sand or gravel for copper ore nuggets.  Once you have 20 copper nuggets, you can cast a hammer in a hammer mold in a similar way to which you made your pickaxe.  The hammer mold is made from clay, and needs to be fired before use.

Having found myself carelessly back to the stone age when my last hammer broke while I was all out of nuggets a couple of weeks ago, I definitely recommend panning. I had the requisite 20 nuggets in a fraction of the time it took me to locate one or two new surface deposits.

Not a good idea to use pulverizer.   It produces a dust that is not smeltable.  Additionally, it requires boards which are locked behind a saw which is locked behind an anvil.

Not to mention you also need metal for the pounder caps and a windmill to power it.

Once you have boards, the others follow along quickly.  But the OP seemed to be asking from a stone age perspective to which a pulverizer would be a non-starter.
