DeddyFS Posted September 10, 2025 Report Posted September 10, 2025 Hey everyone, this is only the second time I've made it to winter. I have a question regarding firepits, I'm cooking down some lime (first time) and after every 2 pieces cooks down the temperature in the firepit resets to cold and has to build up again to 825 to cook the next 2. Is this an expected cold or lime cooking mechanic? Is it bugged?

Nope, that's just how firepits work in general. Once it's done cooking an item, the temperature will reset for the next item when it starts cooking. It's also why this mod is so popular: https://mods.vintagestory.at/betterfirepit 5

I guess because I always cook my food one serving at a time as needed and now in winter I have nothing to do but stare at the fire . Thanks for the info!

There was a YouTuber who I watched back in 1.17, and when it came time to make mortar, he made 10 firepits, got a stack of lime up to temperature, and once the stack was right about to reach temp he'd pull the whole stack out (which kept it's temps), and put one singular piece into each of those 10 firepits. Anyways, soon after the mod you linked came out, and he (as well as I) downloaded it and haven't looked back since 1 1
Maelstrom Posted September 12, 2025 Report Posted September 12, 2025 firepits are also a great way to light a stack of torches. Particularly (and especially) with the Better Firepits mod.
Dealman Posted January 2 Report Posted January 2 Returned to this game as some colleagues were interested in trying it out and my gosh, I forgot how much I despised this mechanic and the acquiring of normal stone blocks. I'm curious, though. With the better firepit mod being as popular as it is, why hasn't this mechanic changed? Or better yet, why isn't it configurable via world settings? This is such a stupid timesink and it makes even less sense when we can heat up a stack and drop one item in at a time to speed it up. Genuinely one of the hands-down worst mechanics in the game.

Can only guess exact reasons, but the roadmap in the latest development update includes an "item heating overhaul", and the devs have shown some other work related to metalworking, among other things. Fingers crossed it's gonna include firepit improvements, because I do agree that they're long overdue.

Would highly recommend https://mods.vintagestory.at/stonequarry for your stone needs. It's the only mod I refuse to play without.
