SPITSPHIRE Posted September 15, 2025 Report Posted September 15, 2025 I just updated to version 1.21.1 as i kept running into question mark blocks around my world and had hopped that the update would fix it, but now on updateing i keep being attacked by mobs even though i have the creature hostility disabled. Bowtorns especially dont seam to give a crap about the setting and light me up anytime they see me.
LadyWYT Posted September 15, 2025 Report Posted September 15, 2025 Do you have aggression set to "passive" or "never hostile"? If it's passive then creatures will still attack you, but only if you attack first. In any case, it could also be a bug. There have apparently been some issues with creature hostility settings. I would double-check your settings to make sure they're as they should be(make sure you reload your save after any applied changes!), and if it's still not working as it should then report the issue over on github.
Jacek Gronowski Posted November 2, 2025 Report Posted November 2, 2025 Had same issue happen on a world i generated today, which was even more strange cause the mobs spawned during the grace timer, hope it was just a bug but still worth noting i think that it's not an isoleted case
Krukid Posted December 27, 2025 Report Posted December 27, 2025 I'm having a similar issue, but it's only the Bowtorn. Aggression is set to "never hostile". Drifters, Shivers, and other typically hostile creatures act as if I'm not there. But the Bowtorn shoot at me as soon as they notice I'm within range. I have also noted that when I close the distance on them and get into melee range, they will only attempt to run; they do not try to turn around and poke me in melee....so their aggression is kinda sorta halfway working?

Welcome to the forums! Are you using any mods that could be affecting bowtorn behavior? If not then it sounds like it's time for a bug report on the Github bug tracker. From what you've described, I'm wondering if the ranged attacks/turret behavior is missing some sort of flag in the code to make it obey aggression rules.

If the predator is currently on a hunting pursuit and you cross that path line, you then become the meal. This is just a guess, but its fairly common which is why I steer clear of bears and wolves even in passive mode. Now regarding Bowtorns I do not know Edited December 28, 2025 by CastIronFabric

I do know that injured animals, regardless of the cause of injury (like falling off the side of a hill), will attack as if you're the aggressor.

XD The only mod I've got enabled that directly affects Bowtorn in any way is Darce's Drifters Redone, but that only alters their textures (that I know of). Just to be sure, I removed it from the server but it didn't seem to change their behavior. I compared the bowtorn.json file on the server with that of a vanilla server build, but there weren't any differences there. Played around a bit with the variables in the JSON file just to see if I could possibly make them completely docile or zero out the damage they deal, but also didn't seem to change anything...which I found odd because it should've. For now, I've just disabled them entirely by renaming the JSON file while I test mods on a separate server build to narrow down which ones might be causing the issue. 1
