the boat itself is completely insecure, not only can anyone hop in and ride off with it, but the storage and attachments also can't be protected?

I thought surely at least the block protection and locks would work but they apparently don't?

people on my server are having things stolen from their boats now, even when they have parked them on claimed land
i guess now it has to be completely enclosed in a building or something?

Just for the record, i don't think any of this is a problem
(i typically want more realism, not less, and the fact that others may use your boat or steal from your saddle bags is realistic).
But i am surprised that you cannot lock the chests on the boat - that should be made possible.

The saddle bags though...
it's made from leather, anybody with a somewhat sharp instrument can get into something like that easily.
I am not opposed to a world config setting that could be set on server to prevent other ppl from accessing other peoples saddle bags (either in general, or based on group membership and permissions same as with land claims), but it should be an option.

we have a /land claim system which is unrealistic too, but vital for an online pve community

Sad commentary on the player base. Well, and on society at large, for that matter, as I look around at all the locked doors anymore.

This is the way it has always been. Locks are to keep honest people honest.

Yeah, but it's still possible to live in a place where there are just honest people, or at least the dishonest ones are deterred by public shame. I do have to remember to take the keys out of the ignition when I head up to Mt. Pilot, but usually they just stay where they don't get lost.
