Veronica Hohenheim Posted September 27, 2025 Report Posted September 27, 2025 I do not like the sound work of this game.I like some of the music but sometimes it just randomly tunes into action ones where nothing realy happens. There are animal noises comes around to set the mood but those animals no where near where I am.I have been hearing a cat noise ingame for weeks and couldnt spot it (this maybe a mod idk, later started to hear a big predator cat growl and still nowhere near I could spot) but worse of it all is breathing noise.I do not get it.Why thats a thing but it makes me scared shitless.Especially at night, and especially both ingame and irl at night.I do not have any living thing inside my house.Closest animal is 60 block (?) something away chickens. The breathing noise I am hearing is not contunuious but its a big exhale from the nose, almost like a horses.I keep hearing it at the back of my neck and genuienly makes me paranoid. And no there is no drifters roaming around.I have a mod that doesnt let them spawn on the surface without rifts even in no light and my house is pretty small so I would find one if there was one. Is there a way to solve this, mute this etc cuz I cant play it like this.

They can be fairly noisy and the sound carries quite a distance, but once you get used to the noises it gets a little less spooky. 27 minutes ago, Veronica Hohenheim said: but worse of it all is breathing noise.I do not get it.Why thats a thing but it makes me scared shitless.Especially at night, and especially both ingame and irl at night.I do not have any living thing inside my house.Closest animal is 60 block (?) something away chickens. The breathing noise I am hearing is not contunuious but its a big exhale from the nose, almost like a horses. Just to make sure all the bases are covered--is there a lot of high winds when this happens, and is your temporal stability gauge full? High wind conditions can be quite noisy, but shouldn't be noticeable inside unless you have some opening to the outside(open door, holes in the wall, etc). If your temporal stability is low, then you could be starting to hear the ambience of the Rust World as your foothold on reality starts to slip. I believe this ambience starts to occur when the gauge(that's the teal gear in the center of your hotbar, if you have the mechanic enabled) drops to around 70%. To make the ambience go away, simply return to a more stable area for a while to recover your stability. Also, if you are using creature mods, it could be a modded creature that you are hearing, as modded creatures tend to make more noise than vanilla creatures.

I have two animal mods, one is saber other is manatee. One is a sea creature so I assume its not even exist in my save yet.Other one, that maybe the cat but I only saw a predator cat once and never before.I dont get why it has to meow where nothing exist. For the stability stuff, its off.It never looked appealing to me so I just disabled it before starting my save. Those exhaling nosies are not normal.Maybe its the side effect of the saber mod idk.I do not know why would that be the case but I do not have any other mod that has a creature that will make that noise.I mean there is a villager mod but they r nowhere near my house and that noise isnt sounds entirely human. If I disable saber mod I assume it will be fine,as in my save would stay intact since it doesnt change anything but add a mob to the game right ?
Echo Weaver Posted September 27, 2025 Report Posted September 27, 2025 My first thought about the breathing noise is shivers. They have a sort of high exhale hiss that creeps me out.

It should be fine to disable the mod, yeah. Doesn't hurt to make a backup of the world beforehand, but the worst I would expect to happen is perhaps an odd ? item or two that needs to be deleted(easiest way to do this is via creative mode). The sabercats are what's likely making the noise, as many big cats make grunts or chuffing sounds. While it might not be realistic for them to be that noisy without a proper cause, the sound serves to telegraph their general presence in the nearby area so that the player isn't caught completely off guard.

Weird. It could be a drifter or shiver, as @Echo Weaver noted. Shivers are high pitched and raspy, but drifters have deep moans that can sound like a heavy breath, especially if it's the idle sound and not the aggressive noise. Bowtorn have some harsh idle sounds as well. If it's a monster making the noise, chances are that you have a cave system somewhere nearby, that's close enough to the surface for you to hear the monsters. As for it being the character's voice, that's not likely, outside of a mod affecting such(to my knowledge, no mods add idle noise to the player). The player character only makes noise if hurt, starving, or emoting, and those scenarios don't fit what you're describing.

Michael Gates Posted September 28, 2025 Report Posted September 28, 2025 Oh, wait. Is this the "whuff!" noise than randomly goes off, at random times, for no reason? I know that noise very well, and I know enough not to bother looking for an in-game cause but every time I hear it I still try to figure out if it's my hair moving across my shoulders, or the cable for my headphones rubbing something, or... whatever. It never is. And then three or four days later it goes off again in a completely different situation. Anyway, yeah, a thing. And not the fault of any mod-- I play vanilla.

That's only if the cause is a monster in a nearby cave, and only if you want to stop the monsters from spawning there.

I doubt its a monster noise, since I watched some gameplay before playing myself and do not remember this noise from any monsters.I dont know whats the deal.Maybe my player character is just cursed idk.I dont remember every instane of this noise happening but I write it when I was at the basement blacksmitthing. So idk maybe its indeed monsters under my house.

Teh Pizza Lady Posted October 1, 2025 Report Posted October 1, 2025 bois and gurls I think we solved it. It definitely sounds like OP is hearing wild deer around their place.
