Adding an inventory sorting feature would make gameplay smoother by reducing the time spent on tedious organisation. With so many items to manage, a simple sorting feature would keep inventories organised without breaking the sense of immersion. VS already has a lot of quality of life features, so I don't see how an inventory sorting system would be a bad addition. I really like Xandus Inventory Tweaks, but it adds a new window doesn't feel well integrated. Here are some ideas that I think would make managing inventory much better:

  • UI buttons for sorting and transfer all common items to the storage container and viceversa.
  • Mouse wheel click for sorting
  • Mouse wheel to transfer one item at a time

I don't think it's worth elaborating much further. Let me know if there's a reason why the developers are against sorting, I'm genuinely curious.

I don't know of any reason they are opposed to it. I think it's probably more of a, "This would be nice to have, but this other feature on the roadmap is more important."

It's possible there might be something they have in mind for the UI that would interfere. There's always the talk about getting rid of the crafting grid. Does that mean they have something different in mind for how they deal with backpacks and long-term storage? Without knowing what's in someone else's head...

[EDIT]

Incidentally, when I use mods, I prefer Sortable Storage. Xandu's is nice, but too full-featured for me. I'd prefer what exists in Planet Crafter, TBH. Ctrl-L-Click transfers all like materials from storage to inventory or vice versa, and has sort.

I wish. After playing other games where I can sort, lock inventory spots, and transfer like items to a chest with the click of a button it gets annoying doing it the manual way. Looks like I need to search for a mod though so that might be my fault.

Thanks for the mod. That was actually my first choice, but I don't want to craft new containers, I want as little bloat as possible. But I love the UI integration SpearAndFang made there.

Check out Quick Stack. No idea if it's been updated, but it works basically like Terraria. You can favorite items and slots, and it leaves them alone, but one button deposits everything in inventory into chests that have at least one of those items.

Terraria really figured out how to manage inventory, the best system I have ever seen. Unfortunatelly the mod is outdated.

Is it? Or has it just not been listed as compatible? I can't think of any API changes that would have affected it.
