Now that Hytale has been bought back is there still any plans for a fantasy adventure mode? Personally while Hytale sounds great to me, a more gritty survival version sounds much more appealing to me. Honestly even if there was a mode that added fantasy creatures that were super strong and better avoided I think that would be awesome and maybe like goblins/orcs would occasionally try to raid your base in search of food near winter! Anyways I think adding some optional fantasy element to the game would be super awesome while still keeping the core survival gameplay, it would kinda remind me of that Grimgar anime which really highlights the brutality of surviving in a fantasy world.

Why did you post this in two different sections?

Anyways, I'll just go ahead and paste my response to someone else who asked about the consequences of hytale:

They may have bought back ownership and announced a restarted development, but I don't see how that would impact project glint unless it comes out that the former hytale devs who got onboarded at Anego decided to leave and rejoin hytale.

more than one voxel adventure game can exist at the same time. I realize that they very well might compete against each other sales-wise, but that's ok. Only puplic companies are so afraid of competition that they would cancel their products, and Anego is not a public company. That's my hope, at least.

As far as fantasy creatures, aren't the rust monsters fantasy? Aren't you, the player a fantastical creature? Vintage Story already is fantasy, even if not mainstream fantasy. What you're describing sounds like something better meant for a mod rather than an a game mode. As a matter of fact, I believe there are indeed mods that add orcs and goblins and dragons and such.

I posted this in two sections because at first it started out as a question then turned into more of a suggestion and I figured it wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't delete the first post (this one).

When I say fantasy I meant the goblin, orc, elf mainstream fantasy.

I haven't been keeping up with project glint and I was just hopping that since Hytale has been revived it wouldn't affect the Vintage Story fantasy project as I remember the motivation behind this project starting from Hytale's cancellation.

Yes, I do believe there are cool fantasy mods but I just thought a base game feature could come with more polish and in depth systems.

I already commented on the other thread, but I'll comment again here...I think adding a fantasy adventure mode to Vintage Story itself would be a pretty bad idea, unless it's done via mods that is. The main reason I say that, aside from the fact that the mere thought of a such a thing generated a lot of community backlash, is that Vintage Story already has three separate game modes: standard survival/story mode, creative, and Homo Sapiens. Standard Survival and Homo Sapiens are similar, however, Standard Survival is the primary game mode that everything is balanced around, since this is the intended version of the game itself. Homo Sapiens is just Standard Survival without any story or lore; a pure realistic survival experience.

Vintage Story has a specific story to tell, with specific challenges, and trying to add a fantasy game mode is essentially going to require a rewrite of the entire story, as well as a rebalance of the gameplay entirely for that mode. That's a whole lot of work, that's going to end up slowing down development times significantly, as well as make it tougher to add new things to the game since there's at least two game modes that conflict with each other. Therefore it's much better to just let "fantasy mode" be a different game, or otherwise use mods to turn Vintage Story into a fantasy-style game.

Given Jonas's tech, it's soft sci-fi. Quotes about sufficiently advanced technology aside, the setting is framed as a result of using crude devices to poke at forces beyond comprehension.

Fantasy is when bad things happen from just reading a tome aloud (even if you've got a chainsaw). Hard sci-fi is when temporal gears are explained using quantum physics, and any zombies are caused by a pathogen that aggravates the hypothalamus. It's a matter of narrative.
