Current roadmap:
- having fat acts as a store of calories, and so it should provide some defense against starvation.
- a high fat level could actually confer some level of resistance to slashing damage (bears and wolves?)
- Could make you far less susceptible to any form of knockback
- increase the detection range for animals and enemies due to more noisemaking

Other Ideas:
- it could make you naturally buoyant, so you don't have to expend as much energy to swim -- Would need to work with Vigor mod developer to see if we can work something out between our mods.
- when starved, you take a hit to your nutrition levels before your health -- would serve to mimic how starvation wastes the body away instead of directly damaging your health just because you have the rumbles in your tummy.

Most of those benefits would only potentially come from morbidly obese levels of fat.  Realistically speaking that amount of body fat should carry a huge movement penalty on the level of plate armor.  Fat is easily cut so it would be a better defense against blunt attacks like drifter's stone throwing.

I can see a buffer against starvation for having some increased fat reserves, though.

it actually does... a default of 40% movement reduction speed at max fat level. We found that any lower induced a "slo-mo" effect which made the game janky in a lot of ways.

Based on testing, I would say the drawbacks start becoming noticeable around the 25% fat mark, which is also when the player receives the first warning(assuming the warning messages are enabled). However, whether or not it's a concern depends partly on the player's preferred playstyle, and their choice of class. Classes with an inherent bonus to movement speed, like Hunter and Clockmaker, ironically won't suffer as much from bad habits as other classes.

🤔 We may or may not need to take a look at that.
