nnneeoonnn Posted December 5, 2025 Report Posted December 5, 2025 I have a save I'm quite fond of on my laptop (iOS) and I'd really like to play it on my better computer (which runs on Windows). Is it just a matter of finding the save file on my laptop and getting it onto my desktop via thumbdrive, or are there more steps to take??
Bruno Willis Posted December 6, 2025 Report Posted December 6, 2025 (edited) Welcome to the forums. I have also got a favorite world saved on a less than ideal computer. I'm going to have a go at moving the save file from one computer to the other, and I'll update you with how I go. Update: Yes, it's really easy. I just grabbed the file in my game saves and copied it onto a memory stick, then moved it over onto my new laptop, jumped on, and immediately died in a temporal storm. Beautiful. I haven't found any odd issues with the world so far. Maybe you'd want to back up a world before doing this... I don't know. Caution is always an option I guess. Best of luck Edited December 6, 2025 by Bruno Willis Results in from test 2
Bruno Willis Posted December 6, 2025 Report Posted December 6, 2025 Update: The tin-bronze scythe I was in the process of forging has transformed into a silver scythe on my new laptop. Weird. Can't complain though. 1
nnneeoonnn Posted December 6, 2025 Author Report Posted December 6, 2025 (edited) Thanks!! I'll see if I can get it to work when I can get back onto desktop and keep a lookout for unexpected upgrades :p Edited December 6, 2025 by nnneeoonnn 1

Did it bring the map data with it, or do you need to go explore everything again? Map data would be my main concern. I loaded up an old world not too long ago after reinstalling the game, and while all my waypoints were still there...the map itself was very much not. Not that stuff can't be explored again, but it is a potential inconvenience.

On second checking, the waypoints are still there, but not the exploration - sounds like it is the same issue you had. Bummer. Luckily I hadn't done much long distance travel yet on that world. Krago Posted December 7, 2025 Report Posted December 7, 2025 If installed in the default path, saved games are in Users -> Username -> Appdata -> Roaming -> VintagestoryData folder. I regularly manually back up Modconfig, ModData, Mods and the Saves folder, usually on a daily basis, just as a precaution. It only takes a minute.

CANNOT find the Users folder anywhere on MacOS

CANNOT find the Users folder anywhere on MacOS AppData is Windows, but macOS does have a /Users/ folder at the root of the disk. On macOS the correct path is ~/Library/Application Support/VintagestoryData/ The Library folder (and some others) are hidden by default in macOS. Gotta hit Cmd+Shift+G in Finder and then you can paste the path in. 1
