Creative Mode: Where do excess items go when picked up?

I've been doing a little cheeky creative mode to quicken the process of chiseling some details in my survival world.

While doing so, I accidentally moused over a long chest and destroyed it with a click. When I went to investigate, I heard myself picking up all of the items from the box. The box was entirely full, all slots in use. There was no way my inventory could hold all of that material. I switched over the Survival mode to check my character's inventory, and I had only a fraction of what was in my original chest, because that's what my character could carry.

Where did all the excess stuff my character 'picked up' go? Is it gone? As far as I can tell, there is no secondary personal inventory while in creative mode that I can check. If it's gone, that sucks massively and the game should not allow for you to pick up items/material in excess of what you can hold, even in creative mode.

As far as I'm aware, stuff disappears when picked up in creative mode. Whatever was in your personal inventory will still exist though when you switch to creative, save for anything discarded from the hotbar.

Creative mode is...creative mode. The player can retrieve anything they need from the creative menu while in creative mode, so whatever stuff is picked up isn't really a problem. What is a problem, is dropped blocks and items lingering after getting dropped. Dropped stuff is clutter that is a real nuisance when building, and creative mode is primarily for building or otherwise freely messing around with the game.

Thanks for the welcome, i appreciate it. Been really loving the game so far since a friend showed it to me.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. The problem is that i don't know exactly what was in the chest. The only thing I could pick out is that I didn't have any more gears, so i put those back. It's fine though, I'm just a frustrated about it. I'll take a break and come back later.

Thanks very much for a quick reply
