Title says it all. So damn tired of constantly running back to my body to only have the wolves being sprinting around my items in a frenzy to instantly kill my again. Idgaf if you say skill issue or not but being ping ponged between wolves while trying to sprint away only to die and have to sprint across the map to try and get your items that took forever to make in the first place and only hope that your last death is near the death you just had because the marker is completely fucking GONE.

pit trap 3x3, 2 blocks deep (3 during winter). When the wolves are chasing you, jump over the pit. And watch them jump in. Then you can either kill them, or leave them as is, and kill them during the winter. That way you have meat for the lean months.

Thats what I do with every map.

Welcome to the forums

You aren't alone! It's tough when you are first starting hands down difficult. Don't give up! Ive had similar occurrences and early game it really hits home hard.

Adapt and overcome, embrace the suck, you'll be glad you did.

Have a stack of packed dirt and some spears. When you're within range, tower up and unload. Be wise and get them to run away. The timer for gear is thirty minutes I think. If you're worried about dying again right away then place a star or another marker on the map over your gravestone.

Yes its horrible when you loose your things because of mishaps such as this but the bright side is that you came back from death. Okay. Hope this helps somehow someway somewhere.

Yeah this is great advice! Spot on!

by the 3-4'th month, i even have a couple of bears trapped. and other animals as well. Its generally the first thing I do on a new map, when I find animals, I look for a good spot for a pit trap, and mark it on the map. First sign of wolves, I poke them and make like a jackrabbit with his tail on fire. Over the pit, and Hello Fresh meat!

of course with bears, your trap needs to be 3 deep (4 during winter months)

Honestly, I just make my pits all at four blocks deep. ladders are cheap enough. Great advice.

There's also /gm 2 to switch to creative, get the admin blade, and delete the wolves before using /gm 1 to switch back to survival(after ditching the admin blade). Do note that the admin blade has a good range on it--avoid going too close to your stuff while in creative, as you don't want to risk accidentally deleting it by picking it up(most picked up items get deleted in creative).

Perhaps not the most ideal solution, but it's sometimes the most efficient one when you find yourself irritated by a stalemate like this.

If you want a genuine answer, then it's because "you are tasty", or that they have cubs.

Honestly, finding a location that seems to have lots of spawning bears or wolves can be totally beneficial. You have access to meat (not great meat, but meat none the less), pelts, bones and fat. All constituent parts of the survival game.

However, early game, it can be a curse, and while you can hunt animals to clear them from a specific area, sometimes it's just easier to relocate to a better (and safer) location. I find digging tons of big pits about the place to be a bit of a "sledgehammer to crack a nut" solution. I mean... it works, but it's hardly elegant.

If well placed, you only really need 1 pit. Maybe two. More distant locations gets their own pit. And they serve as passive traps for other animals. Just check up on them now and again.
