Maybe this is just pre1 bugginess, but I couldn’t find out how to run an axle through a wall during my testing. Does anyone know how? Is this feature even available in pre1?

Something like Shift-RMB an axle while holding a wrench in the off-hand and desired block in the main hand. If it differs due to remapping or something, the tooltip should inform you how to do it.

I can't get axle covers to work with any material, and I can put a wrench in my off hand just fine. I tried with and without mods enabled, and with and without default bindings (I'm left handed so I always wind up rebinding everything). I also tried holding the wrench in my main hand just in case that was what it wanted (the tooltip doesn't specify), but no dice. Any idea what's up?

I'm facing the same problem. Did you find out what mod is causing this problem?

Confirming this works.  I think it was control RMB but I remember the tooltip said how to do it.  I made my first ever wrench just for this, haha.

Is there no way to apply the covering to angled gears? My windmill setup has been a mess for ages and I'd hoped to basically run the entire power train through the walls of my workshop, but now it seems that's not possible if I can't add turns...  hmm.

So, if anyone has the same problem as me, here is what I found: Apparently the mod "Some Disassembly Required" is preventing from equipping wrenches in off-hand. The modder is already aware of this and they'll drop a fix for it in "a week or two" (said by the modder on the 4th of June).

Not that I've found, unfortunately. It's definitely a bother, although you might be able to mitigate most of the problems by hiding angled gears in room corners and sealing off the occasional hole by covering the protruding axle.
