RatKing0 Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 i prioritized efficiency over aesthetics when building my windmills, but now am wanting to dress them up. problem is, i have no idea what to do with all that height. i'm interested to see what others have done for theirs 1
LeDub89 Posted February 11 Report Posted February 11 Oh, I'm very interested too! What did you come up with? I'll post a screenshot when I'm home, but this is my inspiration: https://www.molendatabase.nl/molens/ten-bruggencate-nr-02775 I chiseled a column of 6 blocks into a taper an made a 5x5 square bottom. I lined the top with oak planks and put a thatch roof on it. If I can't make this work I'll try something like this: https://www.demaasenwaler.nl/algemeen/algemeen/37372/onderhoud-molens-beneden-leeuwen-en-alphen

I also want to round out the edges of the building on the Z axis but haven't found a shape I like yet. i'm sort of regretting my choice of pine for the panes, but it would take even longer to get the lead to replace them all I've gotten all the surface lead I found, and prospecting hasn't left me optimistic about my odds of finding any more 1 1
LeDub89 Posted February 11 Report Posted February 11 Wow that's elaborate! I like the bevelled edges and rounded corners. Didn't you find any ores a few blocks down the surface ores? Here's mine. Needs a few more sails, waiting for flax to mature. The claystone with conglomerate accents blends in a bit too much i.m.o. I may change it out for something brighter.

Thanks, it was about 4 hours of chiseling and I'm still planning to work more on the corners haha Your windmill looks really nice! granite and claystone compliment each other pretty well, maybe that could be used as an accent? I did find a fair amount of lead below the surface ores but nearly all of it went to the windows that are already on the windmill lol, theres close to 300 panes on it already so i've burnt through quite a bit Edited February 11 by RatKing0
ArgentLuna Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 The Faux Redwood powers my Blacksmith, the other sails are the Quern but its nothing fancy just a cobble tower on the residental section of the house 3

I never thought about putting a windmill in a big tree, now I need to make one too!
RogueVali Posted February 12 Report Posted February 12 Ours is kinda arse looking, but i do love the internals. Got enough juice to power all 3 powered machines. Little hatch at the top that u can see on screenshot 1 is for accessing and maintenance of the windmill. If u need to maintain the main gear, u can climb the little ladder as well.
Valsalan Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 I prefer to keep mine tall but functional. Although I do need to play around with tapered designs.
Whimsical Fool Posted Saturday at 10:34 PM Report Posted Saturday at 10:34 PM Its a bit of a work in progress but here's a windmill I've been working on recently, I have the miniature I'm basing it on attached as well. I plan to extend the house portion and add some more depth as well as work in the cobblestone base for the windmill section. 4
EnbyKaiju Posted Saturday at 11:17 PM Report Posted Saturday at 11:17 PM The last windmill I made for a longer term world was part of a larger workshop build I was trying, with a layout inspired by the design style of Kingdoms Reborn. There are definitely some improvements that could be made, especially with the axel-in-blocks that are coming in the new update, but this felt like it worked well for what I was trying to do and adds to the layered effect I absolutely love to work with and see from others. I try and keep my mechanical setup very simple. One windmill, with as little mechanical complexity as possible, and this one work very nicely for a solo experience. 3
Louiis Posted Wednesday at 01:37 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 01:37 PM Some great builds here! Why didn't I think of putting a sail into a tree
