WiseLifelessCorpse Posted Wednesday at 06:13 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 06:13 PM (edited) Made this little temple or shrine that I am going to build more around my world. Initially I had imagined it with a round roof, but now that I look at it, I am not so sure. What do you think? The pilars are made with kimberlite, which I "found" (used a block scanner mod) near my base and a floor made of phylite, which I also "found" using the same methods. Kimberlite is very pretty, looks almost jade-like, imo. Phyllite is also quite nice to look at, a bit pink-ish. The middle is made of granite with shale details and has a concave surface at the top, like a basin. I was lucky to capture a lighting strike in the back which was quite excting. (Now that I see it in posted, you can't really see the colors of the columns very clearly because of the shadows... ) Edited Wednesday at 06:15 PM by WiseLifelessCorpse 5

What do you think? I think if you add a roof, it would look very good with a light-colored trim. But otherwise I think the design works well with or without. If you leave the roof off then you may or may not consider adding lightning rods to the tops of the columns in order to attract lightning to the structure. 1
Forks Posted Wednesday at 07:28 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 07:28 PM I vibe with the no roof look, only commentary I would add is to consider raising the floor one block up. That way it doesn't sit flush with the surrounding ground and feels more like a proper structure. 2
EnbyKaiju Posted Wednesday at 08:46 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 08:46 PM If you did go for a round roof I'd 100% recommend making it a copper one, as that'll go really well with the kimberlite pillars. And yeah, as LadyWYT says, chuck a lightning rod on top for the atmosphere to get lots of lightning strikes. It's looking great! 2
WiseLifelessCorpse Posted 17 hours ago Author Report Posted 17 hours ago I raised the floor and lengthened the columns and I think it really gives an impact now. Especially with the rift in the middle, which made it look quite eerie. I tried to give it a ring on the top to connect the pillars, but I didn't quite like the look. I thought it was too blocky and I didn't want to chisel it round. I am thinking of building a much bigger shrine/temple with a rounded roof a bit farther away, but just enough so you can see it in the horizon. I also built a smaller shrine in another spot. 2

I still absolutely love the contrast between the block types. Kimberlite & Phyllite are two of my favourite blocks in the game and their relative rarity makes them all the more special. For use in something like a shrine or temple they make me think of the kind of Lovecraftian aesthetic that fits the tone of the game perfectly. It makes me picture seeing mobs of drifters & bowtorns congregating around the central altar during a temporal storm. 1
