Newbie here...

So, the in-game handbook does not explain how to make powdered charcoal which is needed to make glue, so I thought the only way was to get a lucky drop from a vase or something... days later, I learned about the quern (what the hell is a "quern"?). Ok, fast forward... I made my first quern. Awesome! I made some powdered charcoal... got a pot cooking... making 4 glues... Aaaannddd I can't get it out... no explanation as to why. So I thought. Oh well the pot is unusable because the glue is inside, so i removed the pot thinking the glue was in it. Nope. Gone.

This game kind of infuriates me sometimes.

Using a bowl will allow you to retrieve the glue from the pot, if it hasn't solidified yet. You should be able to apply the glue to broken objects after that. If the glue is solidified the pot can be reheated to make the glue a usable liquid again.

Yeah, this part is counterintuitive, but the devs seem to be looking into that behavior so the cookpot can be improved in the future. For now though, trying to pick up cookpots containing uncooked meals/non-meal contents will empty the contents.

It is a known issue of sorts, which has been in the game for a long time, and it's caused by the pot technically not being a container. When picked up it drops the items inside, but since liquids can't just be dropped like regular items, they get spilled.

You can take the glue out of the pot using any liquid container, that is a bowl, a jug or a bucket, using RMB.

I tried a jug that i found, but it didn't work. didn't think a bowl would work to hold enough of what i made, but ok good to remember this. Use a bowl to retrieve glue. Now im out of the resin that took me weeks to find. :(

If it's singleplayer can always use /gm 2 to switch to creative and replace the lost resources, before using /gm 1 to switch back to survival. 😉 I've done that a time or two when the game acts a little goofy.

You need to take the jug with your cursor and RMB while hovering over the glue in the pot's UI.

Also, it can't be modified with shift, I misremembered that.

The glue is probably the biggest let down this game has given me.. ..which to be fair, is only one of the few negatives I've had.

My first few playthroughs I didn't have enough resin, wasn't exactly sure how to get more (sure, trees, but new player and all that) so glue seems a bit of a stretch. Then I found my first underground ruin area, and saw that all the furniture with the tooltip about using glue or it'll break when removed. I spent time, and several failed attempts to get the glue, but finally I did and found out one glue portion is effectively worthless, so back to the grind, got more glue, applied to this lovely looking but dusty and cobweb covered bookshelf.

It was then that I realised glue only allows you to pick things up, not actually fixes them. I spent ages trying to achieve something that literally I could have done just by rolling the dice and seeing if the object will break or survive my pickaxe, sans glue.

I now play with glue effectively disabled, there is an option in the world gen at the start, under the "Clutter obtainable" drop down, which is located at the very bottom of the [Survival Challenges] section, and it allows you to set all clutter to either "always destroy", "always need glue" or "always gives object". I choose the latter.

Now, if glue restored the item, or there was a secondary process that restored the items (looking through the handbook, I don't think there are many items that don't have both broken and restored versions) then I would invest in glue. I just don't see the benefit at the moment, so I just 'disable' it altogether.
