Mike Delme Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 (edited) I decided to build a replica of the Parthenon in the most realistic size and scale possible, and I'll share my progress here. I'm an architecture student and recently I saw posts from a guy who was building a Gothic cathedral. And since I love antique architecture myself, I wanted to build a classic of it — the Parthenon. I hope I won't burn out soon. first i'll do it in one material and in creative just to calculate the proportions, then maybe i'll build it on a server and with colour. Edited March 18 by Mike Delme 4
Mike Delme Posted March 18 Author Report Posted March 18 (edited) To start, I found an article by a Russian architectural scholar in which he described in great detail every detail and scale of the Athenian Parthenon. Then i assumed 1 block to be equal to 1 meter - so 1 voxel of chisel = 62.5mm - this will be the margin of error. And with this I made a rectangle corresponding to the plan of the Parthenon (30.870m x 69.512m) with axes in the centers of its sides. p.s. looks smaller then i imagined... maybe 1 block is not equal to 1 meter, but i don't care cuz it'll make calculations much harder. Mike Delme Posted March 19 Author Report Posted March 19 I calculated and chiseled out the bases of columns. This was probably the hardest part; most of them were unique, so I couldn't just copy and paste them. 8 at the end and 17 along the long side, with the gaps slightly larger than the column diameters, as expected proportionally. 8
Whimsical Fool Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 Crazy work. Good luck with your endeavors I look forward to seeing it progress! 1
Vratislav Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 (edited) This will be feat and I am very interested! (Also, greeting from fellow Greek temple builder, despite in TOBG. I tried Artemida's Epehesus temple. The construction was easier, of course, as I had to fit to the whole block column sizes and distances, but the result was like 95% close to 1:1 so I was satisfied.) Mike Delme Posted March 21 Author Report Posted March 21 Finished all the external doric columns, 10m in height + 800mm capitals, 2m in diameter at the base and tapering to 1.5m under the capital. And added a stereobate beneath. 5 4
GroovyCoyote Posted March 22 Report Posted March 22 This is nuts, looks so good! The detail is crazy. 1
Mike Delme Posted March 26 Author Report Posted March 26 (edited) I've made columns 9.570m instead of 10 and added entablature, will decorate it later. Edited March 26 by Mike Delme 4 1
