Hello Vintage Story forum!  This is my first post here.  I'd like to briefly express that this game is awesome and it stokes the same brain channels that Minecraft did when I first started it as a kid with a barely functional laptop.

With that being said, I started a new word in 1.22.rc4 (Did I denote that correctly?), and I'd like to keep it once 1.22 is fully released as a stable build.  Can I keep this save file going?  Would it be better to start over using the same seed?  Will the same seed give me the same world in a slightly different game version?

Pardon my many questions.

Edit: I do use Better Ruins and some QoL mods if that makes any difference.

The devs have said that worlds created in the rc versions(but NOT the pre versions) should be able to upgrade to the stable 1.22 release later, so you should be able to keep the save file going as there shouldn't be any world-breaking bugs or major world changes at this point. That being said, depending on what rc version you created the world in, you may need to do some searching to find the new berry bushes or the more polished procedural dungeons. The safest option though is always to wait until stable release before starting a new world.

Mod use can definitely change the above though, since they may go through changes that may break worlds using older versions of the mod. I don't know how much of a factor that is in this case, but it's something to keep in mind. I think the main consideration here is to make sure you're using the right mod version for the game version you're on, and make backups of your world before testing updates just in case something does happen to go wrong.

I started this world in rc4.  From what I've read, I think the new base game procedural ruins aren't present yet in world gen?

I actually had to drop more than a few mods that I was using in 1.21 stable.  I do have an occasional crash, but nothing game breaking.  I had to prune out quite a few mods that weren't updated for the rc4 version of 1.22.

The first one is coming in 1.22 and is present in rc6, so they should be present in your world. They occur roughly every 1500 blocks, so they're not the most common find.

It's been very difficult, but I've not started a 1.22rc world because they are still adding/changing things up thru the stable release.

While an "rc" world may technically upgrade when stable is out, you would likely miss additions/changes in the chunks of the game already rendered.   I'm thinking of the new procedural dungeons specifically, but the release notes a full of fun things.

I've been amusing myself with other games and videos of those playing... building anticipation for the stable release.

Have fun whatever you do!  :)
