n-3 Posted Wednesday at 03:58 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 03:58 AM I have a few questions regarding the update from version 1.21 to 1.22. There are many new updates in 1.22. If I update my current 1.21 world to 1.22 and run it, will it automatically change to fit the 1.22 version? Also, are there any parts that might not apply properly after the change? Will the areas I’ve already played in remain exactly as they are, with the new features applying only to newly discovered areas? Regarding the new dungeon system, do I have to travel all the way to a new region to find them, or will they be added to existing areas as well? Are there any specific "issues" or circumstances that would make it better to just start a completely new world? I’ve played this world for 200 hours and would hate to lose it, so would it be okay to just keep going with this world without any major problems? Also, is there perhaps an existing post or guide that summarizes these concerns?
Nathan Flaminio Posted Wednesday at 04:10 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 04:10 AM I believe only undiscovered areas will have the new things, including the dungeons, if I understand correctly. 2

This is correct, barring some catastrophic bug/glitch of course (back up your worlds when updating or changing mods!). Your wirld will be find, it just will not have the new features that are generated in the world where you have already been. There are commands that let you mess with world generation, including having it regenerate chunks around the player. Those commands can be found on the Wiki under the /wgen commands. LadyWYT Posted Wednesday at 03:52 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 03:52 PM As others have already noted, it should be safe to update a 1.21 world to 1.22. Generally, the worst you'll face is needing to generate new chunks to find some of the new content like the new berry bushes or dungeons. That being said, I would recommend making a backup of your world(s) before updating, just in case something does go wrong.
