Block in hand when finding ore

Hi, i've had this problem several times already and it drives me crazy. Here is the situation :

i find a nugget of ore on the floor (like copper or cassiterite...) i want to click on it to pick it up

BUT

i have a block of whatever in my main hand and i place it atop the nugget which makes it disappear into oblivion.

I've tried to dig the block and look under it but nothing, and it INFURIATES me !

I kind of wish VS had the option of keeping the "0" on the hotbar always empty so you could always have a free hand. That would make this issue a bit easier to avoid. or even just expanding the hotbar to have an extra, always empty "-" key.

You can break (left click) ore bits on the ground to collect them instead, but I do wish we had an always free hand.

I have side mouse button bound to zero and keep it empty for this and similar purposes.

instead of picking them up from now on,

and it did resolved my issue.
