I am curious how the traders business plans address attracting new clients.  Most business decorate themselves and promote themselves, and they go to great lengths to make sure you can find them because they enjoy making money.

Is it gears, they are large and clunky and maybe stain things?  Are they simply trying to avoid collecting any more?

Hiding your 'store' underground or in a tree, hidden behind what could easily be described as camoflauge materials is a poor strategy if you are interested in turning a profit I think?

Imagine Wal-Worlds flyer, jeans half price, today only, come find us if you can!

Just an observance, help me out and give me a good explanation I can hold in mind while playing :) LOL

(A Large Bright flag at the top of a tall flagpole would be an interesting idea)

Some music venues do this these days, right? I like to think the Vintage Story traders are more like priests. They are performing their calling with little to no understanding. They have been sent to a location and told to barter goods for gears to support the quest of any Seraphs that might come by.

I'd like to think the traders are just fellow, lone survivors of the apocalypse that seems to have happened and just so happen to trade with anyone who happens to pass by because capitalism is the one thing surely surviving any apocalypse.

Then again, I haven gotten more than 3 random lore books and haven't been to the first story location yet so I don't know what state the current world (outside of what is physically implemented) is supposed to be in.

Not necessarily. The fact that their homes are intact structures is enough to stand out from the rest of the landscape, for the most part. Given all the monsters about, they're likely more focused on keeping both themselves and their wandering clientele alive, so palisades, stakes, and other defensive measures take priority over aesthetics. It's not really what I would call proper camouflage, as that would entirely blending the structure into the surrounding landscape a little more. I'm guessing camouflage also doesn't help that much against monsters, since monsters don't seem to have any eyes. Camouflage would be more useful as an anti-bandit measure, but even then, bandits are more likely to stick to the areas around settlements, where there's more relative safety and stuff to steal.

Depending on the trader, some employ this method. Although the "brightly-colored flag" isn't so brightly colored anymore thanks to years of use.
