I am replanting some fields I used two in game years ago with crops that should definitely be within the approved temperatures.  Other fields are working completely the same. Is there some mechanics change I am not aware of?  The one difference is that ones failing are raised planting areas that I placed the dirt/farmland in and the other is tilled in situ soil surrounded by a ditch.   Is there a change to how placed dirt supports crops? About half my flax and 80% of my rye failed in the placed fields. Wondering if others have seen this. TIA!

To my knowledge, there's been no such change, though I would check to be sure that all the farmland is being properly irrigated. If it's not irrigated, then crops will still grow, but at a slower rate due to rainfall being a little fickle.

The only other thing I can think of, is that there was a bugfix related to soil nutrients; if I'm recalling correctly, they weren't draining enough before and causing crops to grow faster than intended. That could be why crops are dying now--they're being planted too late to mature before the killing frost hits.

They are definitely irrigated and I am still well before a frost so it is not either of those, but it may be something unintended happened with the nutrients/growth rate. I may test it out in creative.Thank you for that lead.

Is this in a greenhouse? I think there are some corner cases with cropland nutrient regeneration that might not be working right, where you can have plants consuming nutrients that aren't regenerating. I had an odd situation where a field ended up mostly and equally depleted in two nutrients after a failed crop at the end of the year.

It is not in a greenhouse, out in the open.  I think I will just abandon that field for now, assume something is off and try again next patch. If I had better information I would submit a bug but what I have is rather vague.
