still haven't played since 1.21.0, new updates won't break my world right?

been a hot minute since i played this game, looks like there's been a major update or two since then.

Just want to do my regular check in to make sure that my old world should still work even after updating to the newest version. I don't use any mods, it's purely vanilla.

Nothing should break, but best to make a backup before updating, just in case.

I do recommend checking your machinery though, if you have crazy/complex setups. Wooden parts can now get overloaded and catch fire(I think they only smoke instead of burn at the moment) if they are under too much stress.

i should be okay then, i didn't have much if any machinery. Mostly i was worried about world generation changes or the like.

Berry bushes changed and rapid water for the water wheel are things you won't have in your old game explored chunks. They changed how long it takes grain to grow, so you may need more of that if you didn't have a lot already.

I don't know that it takes that much longer to grow, but the yields have been halved, so planting more is definitely recommended.

They did change, but old berry bushes should remain as legacy blocks and operate under the old rules. They should be able to be picked up and moved around, but it won't be possible to spawn more in, and getting new bushes will require going to new chunks.

Didn't they fix a glitch where 1 stage wasn't using nutrients from the soil so now it's fixed it takes longer to grow? Good call I forgot about halving the yields, V1.22 has increased food annoyance. Especially if you hate fishing in games.. Like me! 

 

Oh, thats another new thing you won't find in your current chunks. The fish! If you care about fishing that is. As noted I hate fishing in all games and never do it. Okay well I do it one time and go.. Yup another fishing minigame I don't care to play. lol

I think so? But they may have also "fixed" it back, I'm not sure. Crops seem to take slightly longer to mature, but honestly it's a little hard to tell. So far it feels more or less the same, but perhaps with only one harvest of flax per year on medium fertility, with two harvests being a bit dicey.

Shooting them is pretty fun though--can use a spear or a bow. Don't know if bombs work...I'm guessing probably not, but you never know. I have beenades and fish do count as entities, so I might give those a try as well.

H'uh, odd.

i already have a small lake where fish would spawn in it without issue, would that still count? any time i needed to "Go fishing" i'd just dive in with a club and a knife or something.

Are you saying i won't be able to fish in that like with the new fishing mechanic?

No. Any old bushes that have generated will remain as legacy blocks. They'll continue to function the same way that they always have, including being picked up and put elsewhere, but you won't be able to take cuttings from them and you won't be able to spawn more into the world.

This one I'm actually not sure, but fish rules have changed a bit.

might need to look into it then.

it sounds like new water spawns with new fish pools or something you can go fishing in, my old water might not have that.
