Making a proper bed

Am I reading this right?  The proper bed requires actual cloth that can only be made if you are a tailor?  So I'm stuck with a hay bed?

There is no bed in the vanilla game that requires cloth. There is a wooden bed that only takes a piece of linen.

bouncing on @MKMoose, reply, you can make linen by just combining 4 thread, which are each 4 flax fibers. Anyone can do this.  The cloth or sewing kit recipes are specific to tailors. ..you can also turn off class specific recipes in world settings if you want to make tailor stuff without changing class.

Oh, I guess I didn't wait long enough for it to cycle ( though I thought I did ).  It said stitched linnen or something which required a sewing kit.

I don't know if anything REQUIRES stitched linen.  But yeah, lots of things have multiple recipe options, so be watchful of that.
