Maethius Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 I checked on the Github bug tracker and this is apparently a known issue... you end up riding your elk underwater (can easily happen if you jump off of a cliff) and it won't rise to the surface. If you are not close enough to shore it cannot climb out of the water and will drown. I got my loot out of my elk's saddlebags but couldn't save the elk... SORT OF. It is now floating at level 88 underwater, dog-paddling away forever, and I can still manipulate some stuff on it... the three temp gears hanging from the saddle, my bedroll, etc. But I cannot ride the elk or otherwise affect it. My issue is, other than the fact it has full gear and sturdy leather saddlebags, you can only own 1 elk. Is there a way to either TP the elk to dry land or clear my ownership of it so I can have another? This is an expensive loss! Oh, another odd thing... you can see my elk is lit up underwater, but there is no lantern model hanging from his chest. No idea what happened there!
williams_482 Posted July 16 Report Posted July 16 Have you tried blowing on the bone flute when you are safely on dry land?
Maethius Posted July 16 Author Report Posted July 16 Yeah, tried that first. Ironically, that did cause my elk to swim in my direction... drowning closer to shore. I am wondering now if my elk hasn't vanished because I left gear on it... like the new chests that collapse once they are emptied? Do I take off all of the gear and then try to obtain a new elk?
Professor Dragon Posted July 17 Report Posted July 17 Having lost an elk to random shennanigans myself, I can strongly recommend the following. /gamemode creative "Return" your missing elk and equipment from the Creative Inventory menu Slap on a complementary "upgrade" of some type, such as a snazzy elk blanket, for your trouble /gamemode survival Rejoice! I have zero remorse with fixing game issues with Creative, although I try to be a stalwart of regular game progression otherwise. Professor Dragon. 2
Facethief Posted July 17 Report Posted July 17 Step one: drink all the water in the lake step two: retrieve the elk. 3

If the elk is responding, it's surprising that it won't teleport when it fails to reach you. How close were you, and how many times did you blow the flute for it? For more mundane situations where it makes an unsuccessful attempt to path to me first (such as when I am underground) I find that the elk will get as close to me as it can by conventional means, then when I play the flute again realize it cannot get closer by walking and will teleport. In cases where the elk could reach me but needs a long time to do so, such as when it's ~100 blocks away on easy terrain, I can only get it to teleport by running further away (outpacing the elk) and playing the flute again as I run until it gives up and teleports. 3

I don't like jumping into GM2, but for a glitch I think it's worth doing. @Facethief LOL! I can only drink from a cup, apparently, and it would take a LOT to bail out the whole lake with a ceramic cup! @williams_482 I was right in front of him when I blew it... and he did try to reach me! He just wouldn't "ascend" to the surface, and so he drowned!

If you're right in front of your elk it's probably not going to think teleporting to you is necessary.
Maethius Posted July 17 Author Report Posted July 17 That's a good point... if I had been at max range it might have worked where nearby wouldn't. Wish I would have thought of that!
