Phillip Susi Posted August 7 Report Posted August 7 The wiki says that generation 1 and higher animals can be pet by right clicking on them to make them stop running around. I now have generation 3 chickens and goats and right clicking them never does anything.

That being said, goats, sheep, and pigs will all continue to spook until generation 3, and cannot be soothed by petting. If they are generation 3 or higher, petting them will get them to stand still for a few moments, though I believe they will also stand still anyway when being milked. Chickens, to my knowledge, will always spook until they've bred enough generations to be considered fully tame. The radius at which they spook becomes shorter with each generation. I think at generation 10 they become fully tame, though it's been a while since I messed with chickens so that could have changed recently. 1
Phillip Susi Posted August 8 Author Report Posted August 8 Yeah, the wiki says that chickens no longer spook at all at generation 10... it just also says you can pet them to get them to hold still for a minute before that and I haven't been able to get that to work. Like: SIT STILL, I'M TRYING TO COUNT YOU DINGDONGS.
Phillip Susi Posted August 10 Author Report Posted August 10 I also can't get leading them with a rope to work. I think I wrangled a gen 2 at first and the rope immediately snapped and dropped to the floor. I made sure to get a gen 3 next time and it stayed connected, but I couldn't get it to move where I wanted it to go and after stretching the rope for a bit trying, it finally snapped and was back in my inventory.

IME with chickens of approximately generation 5000, they spook WHEN you try to pet them Then they look highly offended at you, and demand mealworms in compensation for the mortal insult. The game needs mealworms. 1

Did you try to make them go UP? Dragging any kind of animal up a full block with a rope is nearly impossible. You can make it a lot easier by setting up stairs, any kind... stone path, cobble, wood all work. Yes, I know, it's ridiculous.

Maybe try gen 5 and see if that works? I don't recall exactly which generation is required for it, but gen 5 is what sticks in my mind. That being said, it's worth noting that ropes are still very buggy right now, and not the best way to transport livestock. The reed basket is much more reliable, but that only works for baby livestock that are tame enough to tolerate that kind of handling.
