Opened the wiki front page, and the page is out of date. VS is on 1.22.6, and the wiki still lists the latest at 1.22.3. Makes me wonder what else is not updated on the wiki yet. Who normally updates the wiki?

If you're looking for reliable information on the wiki, the best source now might be the #wiki-and-translations channel in the VS discord, as there are a couple relatively active maintainers there.

Versions 1.22.4-6 were generally just minor maintenance patches, so there's not much pressure to keep it.

But either way, quite a lot of things are out of date. A bunch of the most gameplay-critical pages are pretty well-maintained, but less important content tends to be very hit-or-miss in terms of its completeness and accuracy.

As far as I know, it's maintained by community volunteers.

Some people have complained that the reason why it's so out-of-date in a few places is that editing the wiki requires to first make an account and request edit permissions in the Discord channel I've mentioned. I don't have enough experience with game wikis to say what that contributes if anything, but it does seem worth mentioning.

I daresay it is a contributing factor, however, I doubt it's the only one. The wiki has a style guide that it needs to follow, which most wikis have this for the sake of consistency and readability if nothing else. It also takes quite a lot of work to keep everything up-to-date, especially when new content drops since there's often a lot of new stuff and changes to older stuff as well. But it's not just a matter of taking the time to write everything out and format it correctly...one has to be familiar enough with the game to provide all that information to begin with.

Many players enjoy Vintage Story, but I'm not sure there's that many that have that depth of knowledge, that are also willing to sink that much time into maintaining the wiki.

any info on discord is useless to me if I can't access it. and I refuse to open a new discord account, if that account is going to get stolen again just for sending an email to a civil rights movement (as what has happened to me).

The game has a wiki for a reason, and it stands to reason that any information you need will be shown on the wiki, and that the wiki will be reasonably kept up to date. If they can post it on discord, then that same info can be placed on the wiki where it is publically available.

I wanted to actually connect some information on wiki that is spread over multiple pages and correct some things that i know, but after i checked how many hoops you need to jump i gave up.

Forcing potential wiki editors to use verify with discord when there's already a perfectly functioning official forum, that requires you to own the game, feels insane. Discord can't die fast enough.

This exactly. I for one enjoy playing the game and got quite familiar with the mechanics during the past 2 years. But between working full-time, caring for my wife and my child, managing progressing in a higher education and having one, two other hobbies that take up time and space, I just don't have the time to properly care for a wiki as well.

I can spare a few min a day to maintain it. Problem is getting access to edit. Right now I am busy with a crash course in C#, so I can get started on coding vs code mods, and get a crucial mod running.

Just found that the page for server hosting providers on the wiki has a section of non-recommended providers and instead of just saying why they're bad, it just links to some discord messages. Even if discord didn't require an account to view them, it's still stupid to not just say why on the page, and link then link off-site with a citation or just add a screenshot.
