Watokal Posted August 27 Report Posted August 27 Hello, I was looking at the Roadmap and noticed 'More challenging wildlife' under the animal interactions section and thought it would be worth discussing somewhat, specifically for the southern hemisphere (Hot Climates) as currently there is basically no challenging wildlife at all. The Hyenas are easily avoidable, and even when you catch one's attention they don't do much damage, more of a nuisance really. So my suggestions: - Hyenas should hunt (attack) in packs, Spotted Hyenas do this in real life, and it would make traversing through the savannah more perilous. - Add Nile Crocodiles. I think these would work great as they are ambush predators. So when players are gathering clay, papyrus or fishing they need to be aware of their surroundings. They could also provide a new type of leather, which is hardier than normal leather, but has less durability (Croc leather needs to be actively maintained in real life). - Add Hippos, similarly to the crocodiles, they stick to water, but in real life they chase people on land and are quite fast. Killing one should be quite the feat, so they should provide a lot of bush meat and leather. - Regarding Lions, personally I am not a big fan of adding them (for challenge, I am all for as much biodiversity as possible). In real life they only attack/hunt humans due to lack of prey, old age or injury. The same goes for cheetahs and leopards, they just avoid humans altogether, and only attack when provoked. - Add Snakes! I would like snakes in the game (and more reptiles in general). But for the southern hemisphere in particular, the Black Mamba, Boomslang, Tiger Snake and King Cobra come to mind. Gameplay wise players should be careful while walking around, but also when gathering grass, vegetables and stones. Killing and harvesting snakes could also add venom into the game, though I admit I cant think of many applications for venom or poison in the game as is. Any other animal suggestions are welcome, these are just the ones I thought of.

There's just not yet an ETA on when such things will be added to the game. Regarding crocodilians, these are not a creature that needs to be limited to the tropics either. Alligators can handle temperate climates that are on the warmer side. Gharials would also be neat to see as a variant. 4 hours ago, Watokal said: The Hyenas are easily avoidable, and even when you catch one's attention they don't do much damage, more of a nuisance really. Hyenas have a rather strong bite force, so you'd think the damage would be higher. 4 hours ago, Watokal said: - Regarding Lions, personally I am not a big fan of adding them (for challenge, I am all for as much biodiversity as possible). Fair, but it is a videogame, and lore reasons that wildlife has become more aggressive(although it's yet to be fully explained). Big cats in general would be an interesting natural threat, since their MO is stalking and ambushing prey. Fauna of the Stone Age does a decent job of portraying such behavior. 4 hours ago, Watokal said: - Add Snakes! I would like snakes in the game (and more reptiles in general). Venomous creatures would be interesting, but some of these would absolutely need to be heavily gamified, since one bite is a death sentence. Incidentally, I'm not sure that snakes are killed in order to harvest venom--I'm pretty sure they're kept alive so that more can be harvested later. Anti-venom, I think, is also something that tends to have a short shelf life if it's unrefrigerated. Regarding uses for venom, it can be very useful for hunting, as well as PvP. Poison fills a similar role, except that's generally something that needs to be ingested for it to have much effect, so this quality would be more for prompting players to be careful about what they choose to eat. 4 hours ago, Watokal said: Any other animal suggestions are welcome, these are just the ones I thought of. Rhinos are fairly good-natured, but have rather poor eyesight, hence why they tend to charge first and ask questions later. Elephants and giraffes would also make for interesting creatures to find in warmer areas, with the possibility of taming the elephants, and both can also be quite dangerous. Ostrich, emu, rhea, and cassowary are good options as well. I'd also throw the do-do and the moa into the mix. The game's setting is the late 1300s/early 1400s, so these species hadn't gone extinct yet. Same with the great auk, Stellar's sea cow, and Tasmanian tiger(although these may not be extinct, depending on who you ask). There's probably a few others too, but the point is that given the setting, we're not strictly limited to animals that are still around today. 3
PhotriusPyrelus Posted August 27 Report Posted August 27 I'd like to see snakes. I'm not the biggest fan IRL, but they're okey in games. ...unless they one-shot my horse and are basically 100% invisible from horse back in anything but open, sandy plains... I think it'd be fun to have coral and coral king snakes, especially. A wide variety of hostile and non-hostile, venomous and non-venmous. Most/all a bit more easily distinguished than the corals. 3

I was unaware, but that's great to hear, I am looking forward to when they will be added. I would also like to see Caimans. 17 hours ago, LadyWYT said: Venomous creatures would be interesting, but some of these would absolutely need to be heavily gamified, since one bite is a death sentence. I agree, perhaps a snake bite influences the nutrition system somewhat until the venom is 'out of your system', lowering your total health points. 17 hours ago, LadyWYT said: Rhinos are fairly good-natured, but have rather poor eyesight, hence why they tend to charge first and ask questions later. Ostrich, emu, rhea, and cassowary are good options as well. I like all these options, getting ivory from Rhinos and Elephants and crafting decorative trinkets from them would also be cool. I love giraffes, and would never hunt one, but I can imagine the flex of having a full giraffe pelt in your manor on multiplayer. I like the idea of adding Ostriches especially, they can be dangerous in the wild, but they can also be domesticated. Ostrich meat is quite tasty, and while I have never eaten one of their eggs, I can imagine it is too (plus the size of their eggs would provide quite the meal). 17 hours ago, LadyWYT said: I'd also throw the do-do and the moa into the mix. I had not considered this and would love to see these animals added as well, especially the Moa. Since they teased horses, I would also like to see Zebras, but more specifically the Quagga, which also had not yet gone extinct in the game's setting.
