Emily the commoner Posted October 11 Report Posted October 11 Would love to see different types of nut trees. walnuts hazelnuts pine nuts etc etc that would be another fun thing to find and to make nut cooking flour. I know it's in some mods but I love it to be in vanilla. 2
Mac Mcleod Posted October 14 Report Posted October 14 (edited) Agreed. Nut gathering was a huge historically. You could gather acorns, etc. during the fall. It would add a fall food source while on the road. And every 5 to 7 years could be a mast year. Edited October 15 by Mac Mcleod Changed Hut to Nut. 2
DragonGrimoire Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 Walnuts are in the game, they're just entirely limited to walnut tree seeds for some reason. 1
Zaph42nd Posted Tuesday at 04:43 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 04:43 PM 100%, could be a nice forgeable in the early game till you get around to cultivating and maintaining trees, systems already exist as do walnuts, just minor expansions. As for uses, foraged foods, flour/grain meal, and animal feed seem the most straightforward way to integrate tree-nuts into the game.
axpy Posted Wednesday at 11:54 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 11:54 AM I find it kind of ridiculous that the only way to obtain walnuts is basically to defoliate an entire tree to get at best a handful of nuts. I think it would be preferable to handle the nuts the same way fruits are handled currently, which is incidentally the way the mod "Wildcraft: Fruits and Nuts" does it. Actually, in an ideal world, I think all trees should grow the way fruit trees do, i.e. slowly but incrementally. Of course, they should also have different size limits, depending on species. 2

Wouldn't be particularly viable for the trees we use for building. Fruit tree wood is really expensive irl for a reason, and some trees do grow really fast, if not quite so comedically fast as VS trees. (Source: I spent most of my life raising trees and plants irl). Hanril Posted Friday at 08:58 AM Report Posted Friday at 08:58 AM I think it would be fun to see walnuts spawning under tree leaves in proper season. For now it kinda sticks out as an impractical novelty rather than a fully fleshed way to obtain food. 1
Ameletzi Posted yesterday at 02:48 AM Report Posted yesterday at 02:48 AM Ooo, getting a non-meat or dairy protein source for colder latitudes would be awesome. Also, I wouldn't be against the possibility of chestnuts roasting on an open fire =u=
