some recepies seem to just not be worth it? like for example sausages being worse than just.. cooking meat at a fire, everything but dehydrated/dried berries, berry bread, berry syrup and tree sap/syrup seem to just be there to bloat as well as i've seen it

you're defo right on some things (berry bread beats hard tack by miles for travel food) but the power of combination can make a lot of foods ridiculously powerful, like salads made with fried food battered in peanut butter, instead of syrup. peanut butter takes a lot more effort for a ridiculous amount more saturation. Gratin is easily one of the best ways to get your dairy sat increased too.

I think the advantage of sausage is meant to be when you cure it + add cheese to it, it's now a protein you can add to any meal that also has additional saturations, and lasts longer!

Hello! I do not know if I am the first that posted here but when clicking on the "[Any Fruit] Syrup portion" recipes it crashes your game we tried it on multiple people in our server. We are on the newest version of vs

don't sleep on the fruit bread! it lasts for over a year in a cellar and can very easily be made so that one piece gives over 1000 satiety.

also, tree saps and syrup add healing to fruit breads and muffins in addition to being a good source of long-term fruit satiety. in particular birch and maple syrup add +4 hp healing, which is quite significant. you can also create candied fruits and berries with their syrups (i.e. cranberries with cranberry syrup) to get a sat boost, a small hp bonus, and a massive buff to shelf life.

I'm having an issue with the muffins, for some reason I used to be able to put all 5 slots in the mixing bowl with berries and the soft dough, but now even in the handbook recipe it shows i can only use 2 slots of berries, and in the mixer if you put more than 2 slots of berries it just isnt a recipe...whats the deal?

You can also take fruit mash from the press and turn them into dehydrated berries, which slowly dry into dried berries on their own.

What?! I still don't understand what to do with dry, compressed berries.

you are looking at the powered version, that needs gears etc to work, not the mixing bowl by itself

edit: Apologies for failing to start with this; I am running the version with the filename 2.0.0-dev.7.

edit3: I've identified the issue and implemented a partial, imperfect solution:

Apparently, the current version of Expanded Foods is missing all files required for compatibility with the Wildcraft-series of mods. By going into a previous version of Expanded Foods and copying every directory with "Wildcraft" in the name into the corresponding place in the file-structure of the latest version of Expanded Foods, I am once again able to make all syrups. The names of these syrups are all broken, but I don't care about that. I am yet to test whether dumplings work (will update when I do). Something that doesn't work is making fruit-bread. Putting dough in the mixing bowl no longer does anything when combined with (for example) cranberries. Using the mixing bowl to coat previously made fruit bread with the Wildcraft-syrups does work.

I will be testing whether the Wildcraft-syrups crash my game if I revert to an unmodified version of Expanded Foods. If not, I'll just keep both versions of the mod around and switch to the unmodified one whenever I want to make fruit bread and back to my modified version at all other times.

update: Confirming that dumplings cannot be made at all after my changes to the mod file.

original post: So are all the dumplings with filling recipes broken right now? I can't seem to be able to make any. I can make raw dumplings out of soft dough just fine but none with fillings. I've tried using the mixing bowl to combine a raw dumpling with a filling as well as attempting to combine soft dough with a filling and neither works. I've tested, separately, copped meat chunks, chopped raw vegetables, chopped part-baked vegetables as well as each of the above with salt. None of the combinations seem to work.

Trying to make dumplings:

etc. and so on.

edit2: Also, have most syrups been removed from the mod? Looking in the creative menu there are only 18 whereas there used to be many, many times that many. Is something broken on my side or is this a design decision I've missed?

Creative mode syrups:

Can anyone tell me how to make an unpowered mixing bowl? I feel like I'm unable to make it at all and it's bugged out, because there's no recipe for it and trying to combine a saucepan and a stick doesn't work. There's not even an item for it in creative mode.

Been having a similar problem to Pamela from page 81: I can't seem to crack eggs.

I've tried in both a bowl and a jug. The egg will make a cracking sound, but no liquid will be produced, and the "state" of the item will not change (I.E., it doesn't go from a raw egg to a cracked egg).

Also, I think it's a little messed up to progression-lock broth behind fire clay. I've made vegetable broth from kitchen scraps before, did not cook them at all beforehand, and it turned out fine. I assume its for some kind of advanced-meal balancing purpose, but it feels pretty awful to sit there and watch a haul of meat rot away because I'm not allowed to boil it into stock.

Otherwise, though, great mod! Been having a grand old time with it.

it still might be a bug, but i've only ever been able to crack eggs into buckets on the ground.

also you should be able to make a saucepan with any clay, which can simmer things into broth

Re: Eggs, I get the tooltip for "crack egg" when I target a bowl or jug with the egg, and it makes an audible cracking sound when I attempt to crack it into one, but it doesn't change the model or provide liquid egg.

Re: Broth, you can't make broth from raw ingredients unless they're bones. Vegetables, meat, etc. explicitly require you to part-bake them in order to use them to make broth. It even says so in the handbook:

image.png.46c710167619b773e92f7217ae6bafe3.png

...and I think that's crazy. There's no reason I can think of to gate broth, one of the oldest technologies known to man, behind a copper anvil. All broths are completely interchangeable with eachother. If I really must pre-roast the meat and vegetables, at least give me more sat or something, since it would taste better. But I think the system as-is is unnecessarily punishing, especially since the only other decent ways to preserve meat are gated by salt(RNG based on whether you can find an ocean/halite) or, again, a copper anvil(meat rack needs planks which needs a saw which needs an anvil). Sure, you can char your meat on the fire and have a crunchy husk that lasts a few more days, but that's kind of messed up when the gate for broth seems so arbitrary.

And yes, technically, you can find fire clay without obtaining a copper anvil, but it's heavily RNG based, since it only naturally spawns in bauxite biomes and the only other way to get it is via cracked vessel drops or artisan traders. So unless you get lucky with your RNG, you'll have to craft it, which means you need a quern, which mean you need a chisel, which means you need an anvil, and so on.

but unless there's a bug, there's nothing stopping you from using bones for broth, and..

and there's nothing stopping you from at least fully cooking without an oven either, you can use your saucepan
