As a newbie playing without the minimap, I was beginning to think the clay is a myth =P

Glad to hear it's not an elaborate hazing ritual (or is it?)

One day I'll find it.... One day...

Not a hazing ritual.  This thread is over 4 years old when clay had different spawning rules.

This is why threads more than 12 months old should not be necro'd as world gen has undergone a LOT of changes in the past 12-18 months.

For finding clay I’d suggest exploring a lot and training your eyes for the color of clay in your surroundings.

As a new player, I endorse this.  I just had to train my eyes to pick up on it, then suddenly I started seeing red clay everywhere.

To be clear, my hazing ritual comment was a joke.

Anyway, I'm happy to report I did end up finding the clay eventually. Most often on the sides of cliffs.

As a veteran player, I had the worst time finding red clay when it was first added, until I'd found a couple of deposits to learn what to look for. Of course, sometimes the world gen just decided that clay was going to be the tough resource to get.

Welcome to the forums and the game! It might be a joke, but part of what makes it funny is that it's also somewhat true. 🤣 There are certain things that every player has to go through when learning the game, and figuring out how to find clay deposits reliably is no exception. Though after you've found a few and know what to look for, they tend to be easier to find.

As a grizzled veteran that was hazed in 1.14, the new berry bushes confounded me until my brain figure out what to look for.   Now I see them in my periferal vision like all the other valuable resources.  My first 1.22 world I nearly starved to death the first night coz I didn't see the berry bushes.
