  1. First, just let me say that I take no credit for this. I stumbled on the information in a reply to a comment in a YouTube video. I've seen people, including streamers, asking for this information while reading about Vintage Story, but I figure most people won't see a reply buried in another comment on a video fewer than 1,000 people have watched yet. I will cite the source at the bottom of this post. It is possible to copy the customized settings for a world you have already created, then apply them to a new world you go to create. You still have the option to change those settings before finalizing the new world. I have tested this in Vintage Story 1.18.8 and it worked successfully. Create a world with the presets you want, then save it with a name like "Master Save" On the Load/Create World menu click 'Modify World' on the right side of the "Master Save" file Click on the button that says "Copies the playstyle to your clipboard" (Two papers/Bottom right) Back out to the Load/Create World menu and press the button to create a new world Click the customize world button Press Ctrl+V (only this) and it will copy your customized preset from your Master Save to your new game The YouTube video is: Vintage Story Preparing To Start A New World E1 Customization Choices. This solution was posted by @johnnytambourine2974 in response to a comment made by @sckip97490 about saving a personal generation preset.
  2. At the moment, lack of irrigation water. I expect to have a saw soon, but as I got off to a slow metal start, no saw meant no buckets. I had seeds and wanted to get them into the ground so I had food. All of my farmland is based on placing dirt blocks into a pond so they would stay irrigated. To leave blocks fallow, I would have to have another farm at another pond with its own fences and rabbit pit... so just easier on resources and time to replace the soil -- which I have plenty of from working on other things. For future farms once I have a bucket, I expect to use field rotations, and hopefully crop rotation once I find seeds that are not all the exact same nutrient requirement
  3. Another trick I've found early game was when I was stuck in a situation where all of the seeds I found used the exact same nutrient. I only had medium fertility soil, stacks of it from digging out areas to shape my base, so after harvesting a crop, I would dig up the depleted soil -- which destroys it as tilled soil cannot be dug up -- then placed a fresh medium fertility block and tilled it. I'm hoping to end up with a more sustainable solution once I have more crop types, but for now this lets me keep my tiny little farm growing.
