Don't make Copper armor is my advice. I don't make armor typically until I get to iron, but I can usually get to iron before my leather is done. I wouldn't make anything less than bronze armor if I were you.

The bees work when the chunk is not loaded. I've gotten bees from 1k away from my base on several play throughs and I just set up the flower area, put down the skep and come back in 7 game days and the skep is populated.

Disappointed with current end game story content (mild spoilers)
Zane Mordien replied to Julie Brown's topic in Discussion
I'm with you. I was so annoyed the first time I did the tower. I had my own rant post as well. The tower didn't load right and I didn't know that because I didn't watch any spoiler videos. I finally gave up and asked in discord for a spoiler and that's when I realized something was wrong. I had to reload the chunk and it deleted my elk of course. The lift bugged out and dropped me to my death about 3 times. It was very frustrating, but the game as a whole is great! The 2nd story location just needs some love. and fewer bears! Did I mention fewer bears? -
I felt like it was 100% of the time through a fence. They blasted me when I tried to use fences to weed them out and block their line of sight. @Thorfinnhas posted this before from the code. I finally got a 100% drifter storm AFTER I set up my base for Bowtorns, which was very annoying since I wanted to test it out.

The map seed creates the same map every time for anyone. I use them all the time to help people on discord find stuff on their game. I cant tell you exactly how it works, but it isn't magic. The map generation uses that seed number in the calculations to generate everything so the same seed is the same map.

I use the elk mainly for the carry capacity as others have mentioned. It absorbs the fall damage which is sort of nice as well. The turning hasn't bothered me much, but I see your point.
-
It depends on which way the slab is turned. I forget which way is right but just play with it. I use the hud clock mod which tells you when the game registers it as a room. I suggest that at least while you try to figure it out.
-
After I finish the story chapters I will add some content mods since at that point I'm past survival and into thriving.

I have to say it: I would have so much preferred dinosaurs.
Zane Mordien replied to gomodo's topic in Suggestions
The drifters are actually inspired by Silent Hill according to Tyron. -
Hud clock mod was my first and I always use it. I'm pretty minimalistic on mods in general after that.

Buy halite from a merchant is my advice, unless you want to find it just to say you found it. I'd suggest doing a Youtube search if you want to a decent tutorial on it. What you heard just sounds like drifters grumbling to me.

I set up for like 15-20 but probably end up with only 9-12 since I get tired of collecting the reeds. I didn't know crops count as flowers though. That is interesting. I end up with so much honey and wax that I can't use it even with that few skeps.

Mods/gameplay styles/settings for inhospitable biomes ?
Zane Mordien replied to Kolyenka's topic in Discussion
The hot starting location just gives you day/night vs the artic start and you can find wild rye and like i said a short growing windows in a greenhouse. There are moose and rarely a type of goat may spawn. As always plenty of polar bears. I don't know of any hot world mods myself. Amen to that. My first snowball world I had firepits everywhere for storage. -
Tyron did say in an interview that they would at some point update animal reactions to be more realistic, but they would still be aggressive overall. I got the impression that meant bears and wolves wouldn't necessarily attack instantly but have some warning reactions first. But that is just my interpretation of what he said and its not implemented yet.

Mods/gameplay styles/settings for inhospitable biomes ?
Zane Mordien replied to Kolyenka's topic in Discussion
Similarly, Snow ball earth using the hot start is my go too. Having no storage until you find enough ruins for the bags or reeds is challenging. You get a very short growing season in a green house which is a fun challenge to get going fast enough to harvest. Then doing the story events with out leather to make the better armors offers a challenge. Maybe one of the hot start mods will make it interesting to go the other way. -
Lol, turn off PVP. I should have mentioned that. My son killed me all the time as well until I disabled that setting. I'm glad she is having fun. It's a blast playing with them.

@Thorfinn With my first 1.20 world I had that issue myself. I just couldn't see it, but I knew it was there close by. I spent game days until I finally found it and same thing it was not even 100 blocks from my base, but obscured. The one that really got me early on was limestone. I went maybe 5-6k south to find it on my 3-4th world. Packed up my inventory fat with it and some bauxite and came back to base so proud of my determination to find it when everybody complained about granite starts. The next day I run north 2k and its everywhere and I can see bauxite in the side of a mountain. So much for my big run, I just needed to explore around me first. From then on I don't go further than 2k looking for resources until I've exhausted 2k in every direction. That's why I always advise people on discord to only go 2k in every direction.. yes it may be further but odds are it is closer than you think.

The recipe hasn't changed for the furnace since I've started playing in 1.18. The new door is for the beehive kiln. Any of the guides on you tube should work.

Does my slanted roof design not count as a roof?
Zane Mordien replied to Dragonet's topic in Questions
Slabs and chiseled blocks are always the reason that greenhouses don't work. It also looks like you might be 12 wide which is beyond the greenhouse dimensions. You can't really make a greenhouse pretty with the game mechanics. They sort of have to just be block walls and a flat ceiling. -
My commodity trader turned into an agricultural supplier.
Zane Mordien replied to fotzepol's topic in Questions
My traders have never changed unless I did a "prune" command. Maybe you marked the wrong trader and ran back to him instead. I have done that before. Took me a minute to look around and figure it out. Sorry your hunt for lime was a bust. You really can't buy enough lime to do anything with so he is just saving you money. -
If you remove food from a sealed crock it breaks the seal. I assume it is the same if you seal a crock and then put the food in, you break the seal. Not sure why it would let you seal an empty crock but if it does then don't do it.

It would be nice if they created preset options for map generation that would set the landform, landscale, etc... so you could select a starting preset to get oceans, islands or one big landmass like today. After you select the map type you wanted you could always customize it more but it would be nice to right out of the gate know the settings that would generate oceans for the new boat. Sort of like the map selection in Civilizations where you pick Continents, fractal, pangaea, etc.. I know those don't translate well to how VS creates the map but the concept would be the same.

@LadyWYT I always play blackguard and I still use flint spears even with the damage penalty. I'd say more for my preference but I don't want to spoil it for them.
-
Do not use plate armor unless you have the blackguard armor or the other one. Player made plate armor = no healing unless you remove the armor. Have plenty of healing poultices. I use a shield always but keep torches to throw down to light up the area if needed. I still carry a lantern and have the shield ready to hot swap over. I personally think you should prepare to battle as both range and melee. Some people would disagree but that is my playstyle. Have fun, going through the RA the first time is awesome!
-
I think it depends on how much bronze you have. If you are filthy bronze rich then make bronze spears. If you have tons of copper and precious little bronze then copper spears. If you have very little of either, then flint spears. Beauty of flint spears is they are disposable if you find something you want to carry more than them.
