  1. A lot of content to be desired and a lot of features to come. Thanks for your insights, sounds solid, thanks for the anwser!
  2. As an experienced firmware engineer usually being called in with my team when companies are on the wrong track heading towards (multi million dollar) deadlines they cannot possibly hold on to with their past choices, I have seen my fair share of, well, "interesting architectures and management decisions". That being said, I appreciate this game with all its flaws. However, there is a reason games were released with a defined scope - and deadlines are important. This translates to everything: game quality and "polishedness", especially considering a team's knowledge and skill. You and your team know "the corpses in your basement" the best and some might be fixable with architecture hacks - breaking most mods and other ingame features. If you have not mastered test driven development - and it really is easy in C# to do so - look into it. Since you all have left the ranks of junior developers, but are far from senior positions - knowledge and project management wise - I urge you to consider the future: updating and reworking a flawed architecture when you are not bound to physical devices/hardware is to some extend ok, but will cripple and possibly break your entire company if done for too long: the cash inflow will die down. To financially secure your company, your team and project for years to come and to start - this time - from a rock solid foundation, meaning solid architecture (without breaking most interfaces on every major release) I must ask: will there be a VintageStory 2, are there plans to switch developement over to VS2? I'd rather pay again for a new title with improved features and know the company and development will continue, than having the company die of bankruptcy thanks to a never ending "fix feature fix" dev cycle.
  3. hey, thanks for letting me know! As of right now I will have to see if I can do something about that. You know, time is ever more of a constraint than anything else Update: Sadly, as the game doesnt seem to incoroparte more gameplay updates (no village, no mine carts, boats, horses - yet you need to walk forever to get stones and stuff - no enjoyable monsters (why shield so late? no clear vision... ), still no red-stone like logic elements and yet the performance is still hard sub-par (on a ryzen 5600, rx580, nvme ssd ...)) regard this mod as abandoned until further notice.
  4. Thanks! For the latest release I didnt have anybody to test the mod on a server with multiple players. So keep em coming those multiplayer bugs. I cannot easily reproduce them as I cannot connect multiple times to one server :(
  5. It is on the modDB now. And I took some of your advice to heart and reduced the ressource costs.
  6. Still need to look into it. Updated for 1.15.5RC
  7. We talked on discord, just putting this here for others to read: yes, but currently extremly busy so take it as a NO
  8. I agree. It should return the inkwell, so it can be filled up again at the barrel. However, a quill (without a metal tip) wont last that long. I doubt a real one would allow to write multiple books. After few pages one would have to cut off a piece to get a fine tip again. Feel free to chime in. I would like to add durability to the inkwell with quill: once the durability is at zero it should return an empty inkwell - no quill, tho. Because I would rather not have two different items required to be carried around for writing into the book. Overall the barrel should also be replaced by something made from clay (ceramic actually), becausue Iron sulfate would eat the wood
  9. You should be able to continue regardless by adding resin instead of honey. Yes, I see that I cannot empty out honey from the bowl into the barrel, I will look into it!
  10. modBooks! Latest version, download: GitHub/modbooks What to expect: This mod adds books and paper to write anything to share with your friends and server community featuring VintageStory's VTML parser. Be sure to check out the wiki page on the parser in order to understand all its functions! Writing will be done via the Book Editor that allows you to add up to 20 pages for books and two for papers. There is an extensive help entry in your survival handbook (default press "h" ingame) to help you on your journey how iron ink, writing tools and books are made. If you want to write anything you will need to craft various items: pencils, quills and inkwells! But an inkwell is incomplete without first chemically crafting you own iron ink: Once you have mastered the art of making ink and pencils you can start to make books you like! Books can be crafted in various colors, so you have some options: Be sure to make quests and share stories with your friends! I hope you enjoy this mod, have fun! Please help me find bugs and report them here! Thanks
  11. Check it out and help me find bugs by testing it in multiplayer!! Mod here:https://www.vintagestory.at/forums/topic/2770-mod-modbooks-write-your-own-stories/
  12. Setting up your barrel with limewater and tannin: With bucket selected in your hotbar: and holding STRG and clicking (right click) on Barrel will take out 1L of water (or 0,25L of honey) and put it into the bucket. and holding SHIFT and clicking (right click) on Barrel will put into the barrel 1L water (or 0,25L honey). just right clicking with bucket selecte in hotbar will transfer all content of bucket to barrel, if bucket has content, otherwise - bucket empty - you take as much as you can from barrel (max 10L, since bucket can only hold 10 L). You can always use more liquid in the barrel on your leather/ raw hide than nedded, so just put as many in as possible (maybe one at a time) and use the number that works. When there is just 4L or something left in the barrel, just take it out with an empty bucket, go with that bucket to a water source, take water with bucket and what was in the bucket before is now gone> refill your barrels! For pelt, no barrel needed, just animal fat and raw hide. Apply and wait. Pelt cannot be made into leather! For leather and all the steps: use raw hide with barrel with limewater, use knife on soaked hide, than put in barrel with light tannin, than in barrel with strong tannin. Note: there is a HUGE difference between pelt and leather! Be sure to know what you want.
  13. I do feel like tho some people dont "get" clay working: You start with a lot and take clay off. That is how you do it in real life. As with many handcraft professions you work "invers". The - studpendious - idea of going "on top like legos" is a mindset problem and does not in any way resemlbe reality: even with modern tools (cnc, extrusion etc. ) we always work invers. And once you understand this and learn to apply it clay working here is really simple and fast. Only the anvil takes a lot of time, but how often does one do that one? Exactly: once. Still think a "helping hand mode" would be good for reasons mentioned, but other than that I wouldnt change much.
  14. Known Bugs: - paper not synced for multiplayer - books author changed when picked up and placed by other player fixed: - add multiple empty inkwells to barrel, than add LAST one in itemstack will crash game - Iron sulfide should say Iron sulfate! Will be fixed with the next update. fixed - Cannot place honey once iron sulfate is already in barrel (neither with bucket nor with bowl) fixed - breaking block underneath is said to duplicate the book (bug in 1.12.0 ) fixed -overflow bug on pagemax 20 fixed To-Dos: 1.3.0: add animation
  15. modBooks! Wirte your own books and letters to share information Here: https://mods.vintagestory.at/modbooks or on Git: GitHub/modbooks Works in RC 1.15.5 VintageStory What to expect: This mod adds books and paper to write anything to share with your friends and server community featuring VintageStory's VTML parser. 16. Not promising anything, but I am looking into how I can get the renderer to render title and first page etc. So here is hoping we have writeable books soon.
  17. I would suggest a better approach: "Helping-Hand"-mode as with many newer games we should think about a "helping hand"-mode for people with dissabilities and also those who want to turn it on! Also red-green blindness and the like. This would make this option very valid - and it is pretty much only a simple recipe mod. People who have trouble controlling a mouse can easily choose to just use the regular crafting system. Someone just needs to make the mod. If the devs choose to have the mod implemented as a full feature like in a "helping-hand" mode is up to them ofc. However, I will also stress that I do find these modes very well implemented and in a very good way a mechanic that resembles the real life process. It teaches many things: patience, hand eye coordination without a stress factor (unless you are impatient) and how it was and is done in reality. It is still an abstraction so that it doesnt nearly take as much effort, time and skill as it would in reality to craft something like a knife blade out of rocks. I have done smithing and clay work and those were for a very good reason MASTER professions of their time. After panning and having copper tools you hardly ever use knapping - at least I dont need to - and clay working is super fast as I almost only ever use 3x3 (dont forget about F and think "invers"). Smithing is even faster, doesnt even take 30s to make a plate or chain. Also, if this is already "too much" for you, than I do not know how you want to find alloy minerals! That is much much more work than those three elements...
  18. Tutorial (Windows) - Dedicated Server via virtual LAN This is a small tutorial for windows users on hosting a dedicated server on your network or the pc you are playing on and have friends join via LAN (even tho it is over internet ) . Problem: Friend cannot connect to my server, but I can connect to his! He only has IPv4! This little tutorial also adresses a growing problem: some users will only get IPv6 and a general IPv4 adress from their ISP making it impossible for friends with only IPv4 from their ISP to join to any IPv6 server. You can check if you or your friends only have IPv4 or also have IPv6 adresses by checking here: https://www.whatismyip.com/ This Tutorial will help you be able to host if you have IPv6 and IPv4, but your friend only has IPv4! Preface: We will be using an open source tool called ZeroTier (think: "like hamachi"). Please read ZeroTier's description carefully and decide for yourself if this is an option for you. If ZeroTier is an option for you, you will have to make an account with them - basic is free - in order to use their network and to setup a virtual lan. I will take you thru the process of setting up your connection! Important: your friends will also have to register with ZeroTier, but only need to join your already setup network, so joining players only do number: 1, 2 and 3. Let's begin: (FOR ALL PLAYERS) Important: Make sure you have Port 9993 (UDP) open! For more Information, see: https://zerotier.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SD/pages/6815768/Router+Configuration+Tips 1.) Download Installer: Download installer from ZeroTier.com, install and run it (no reboot required): https://www.zerotier.com/download/ If the program was started correctly you should see a little orange/yellow/brown icon on your taskbar in the notification area (usually where your time and date is shown, also speaker, network etc). 2.) Register, Confirm eMail, get API Token: Follow these steps (also from their webpage, step 1 to 3: https://www.zerotier.com/download/ ) Register with them, get a 16-digit network ID. After registering with them and confirming your eMail you will see your 16-digit network ID. Otherwise: 1.) login to your account at https://my.zerotier.com/ 2.) scroll down to API Access Tokens 3.) click the green button saying: generate new token Now, if you see your 16-digit network ID, right click on the icon in your notification area and select -> Preferences... Copy the 16-digit network ID into the API field and click OK. Good job! Hint: After login: Authentication is where you confirm you eMail. Example, should look like: Central Instance: https://my.zerotier.com API: T3Po4i4Ry7Tvb5jH86vlcocAwt24Pyk3 3.) (FOR ANY PLAYER WHO WANTS TO JOIN, NOT HOST!): 3.1) On your taskbar, right click on the icon of ZeroTier, select: Join Network... Check "Allow Managed" (default on), enter network ID (that the hosting player will have to give you!), click join Important: Make sure you have Port 9993 (UDP) open! For more Information, see: https://zerotier.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SD/pages/6815768/Router+Configuration+Tips FROM HERE ON -- ONLY HOSTING PLAYER: 4.) Setup Network: 4.1) Create Network: On your taskbar, right click on the icon of ZeroTier, select: Create and Join Network Check if network was created: On your taskbar, right click on the icon of ZeroTier, select: Show Networks... You should see something similar to this: See: something like "c7c8172af16f90e2" (upper left corner) is the network ID you will have to give to your friends who want to join your network and your Vintage Story LAN server! Hint: You can also see this network when just right clicking on the icon of ZeroTier in your notification area, with the name of the network in (). 4.2) Login and configure Network: - Login to https://my.zerotier.com/ -- click on: Network s, you will see your created network from Step 4.1). -- click on: <<you network's name>> (or go here: https://my.zerotier.com/network/<<YouNetworkID>> ) Side stepping: --- Yes, you can change the name and add a description if you wish. --- You can choose if your network is private or public. If you want to go private, you will have to add each node (here: person that can connect to your network, so other players) by getting your friends ID and add his ID in this window (scroll donw to: Manually Add Member). !! Scroll to: Advanced Set: IPv4 Auto-Assign as shown below: Click: Advanced enter into (Range Start): 192.168.0.169 enter into (Range End): 192.168.193.1 Click: Submit !!!! Important: If you want to host on a different PC in your LAN network, of course you do all steps 1-4 (not 3) for that hosting PC in your network. And your "play PC" will only do steps 1-3 ! Yes, this would mean you have to register twice, each device, because of API Token! Range End can be different, least tho 192.168.0.171 should suffice! Example: 5) Give you friends your (virtual) LAN IP: (same window as Step 4) - Login to https://my.zerotier.com/ -- click on: Network s, you will see your created network from Step 4.1). -- click on: <<you network's name>> --- Scroll down to: MEMBERS ---- Find your ID, there will be a 192.168.xxx.xxx LAN IP adress. Give this -edit- OR the IPv6 adress - to your friends. All friends on this network can connect to your server via this IP! See picture below! Hint: Usually you should only see yourself, unless you already had friends join the network. Put MEEEE into the (short name) Box: 6) Have your friends join your network: Give your Network ID to your friends and have them join the ZeroTier network (see Step 3). 7) Host Your Server: - like explained on VS Wiki e.g. by creating a world in single player, than exit game, go to main directory, click on: VintagestoryServer.exe, start your normal game, go to Multiplayer, add new server // Host player must enter: 192.168.0.170 (if server is on same pc as playing) OR the IPv6 (fcxx:xxx:xx:::::) is also ok otherwise use IP like friends! Friends must enter LAN IP above (step 5) Check out VS Wiki Server Commands HAVE FUN PLAYING!
  19. Arnt you underestimating the impact? If this works smoothly we could expand it for e.g. ducks/seaguls (only from water to water) or larger birds that you do see, even enemy creatures flying (big vultures or some crazy flying mob) etc... It adds a whole new dynamic to the game: combat with flying entities!
  20. I would assume: inertia? This way you can accurately display a moving object following a trajectory with its inertia. Your bird could do with some inertia calcs. But dont get me wrong, I seriously love your bird. I know you were debugging, but man, that cracked me up! Have you solved the problem? Suggestion: After the bird found its new destination, have the bird first turn, look (1s) and than go off into the direction -- > would give players "that moment" to hunt them (so gameplay wise maybe even 1.5s, 2s?) and it would also look more realistic Thanks and keep going it is a great idea!
