  1. I also see the "Host not responding" thingy quite often, and I do play alone . In my case this is because of the clogged up OS I am using (Windows 7) and several programs which suddenly kick in and take almost all of the available resources and occasionally block the internet traffic (e.g. (un)TrustedInstaller and the antivirus program). So your experience can be explained with your machine being more powerful and better managed than Mino's and D's.
  2. I suppose your home is high up in the sky... The dark sh*t has something to do with the weather, low clouds or haze, or something similar. If you find a way to clear the weather, this should fix it. I also tried the ".debug cr" thingy + several other (weather related) commands, none of which had the desired effect, so I packed some patience and everything went back to normal after a few in-game days, when the weather has cleared. The haze comes back occasionally, though, more commonly during the winter. This dark effect seems do dissipate rapidly with decreasing the height you are at, so, may be it is worthy to move your barns lower in the world...
  3. I think they don't despawn if left in dark as the domesticated animals do... I have 3 bears and one or two wolfpacks stuck in holes under the mountain peak I inhabit, and they are there for more than 2 in-game years now. There are no light sources near these holes. And I haven't seen another bear or wolf spawning since these are trapped...
  4. I am not a member of the dev team and hence I can not say whether more advanced ways of baking pottery are part of the roadmap or not. That's why I said that "I have a feeling". And the "holes" thingy should be interpreted as "upgrade possibilities". Currently the player has a way to produce pottery (pit kilns), so the minimum is present and potentially can never be upgraded upon (by the original dev team). I like and respect when people are proud of their work. This means that they put soul and heart in it. And this is rarely seen lately, unfortunately. As a software engineer (a real one, not in the microsoft terms) who designs and implements complex solutions for over 20 years now, I can safely say that the sloppy slobs are far more common...
  5. If you don't mind using a "shady" solution: jump into creative: "\gm 2"; scan the loaded chunks for marble: ".debug find marble"; jump back into survival mode: "\gm 1"; If there is marble near you, you will be provided with some coordinates. As a fun fact: in all my playthroughs I have stumbled upon exposed marble veins and other exotic things (i.e. silver in galena) but I am yet to see a single block of chert...
  6. I have the slight feeling that the devs left some obvious, er, "holes", so that modders can step in, thus promoting the modding aspect of VS... You can try QPTech. I installed it because of the irrigation pipes and ended up with full blown factory setup.
  7. That's exactly why I use the TPTools mod . It adds crafting recipe for the creative teleporter into survival. I am not sure if this is mentioned somewhere, but if one wants to move an already placed teleporter, he/she should use a padlock to break it (as strange as it sounds).
  8. Also, don't rely too much on the density, reported by the prospecting pick. I have encountered huge amounts of gold and silver in chunks where these materials aro not even mentioned in the ore density report and 2 deposits of iron ore in a chunk which reads "Very poor"... I ususally dig a shaft while taking samples with the prospecting pick every 16 blocks vertically to find if there is something of interest nearby (Y = 100, 84, 68, 52, etc.). When finished with the shaft, I seal it with a dirt block, move some distance away (e.g. 32 blocks) and dig another one. Using rope ladders helps tremendously as these can be gathered from the top and re-used in the next shaft.
  9. Or a bit higher near your current position? My in-game home is at a mountain top (Y = 190) and there is an additional garden in the plains below the mountain (Y = 112). There is a 15 degrees C difference between the two...
  10. An easy workaround (albeit factually incorrect) is adding a "Bamboo sticks to firewood" crafting recipe, similar to https://mods.vintagestory.at/sticksarefirewood .
  11. A bear spawned right in my walled out apiary area where there is no natural forest in a 200 blocks radius. It is right next to my tree farm though. Just as I exited the beekeeping shack the screen suddenly went brown and there was heavy breathing in my ears. Luckily the bastard was quite big, couldn't fit through the shack door and ended up in the composter barrel.
  12. I think the minimap and the coordinates overlay can be turned on/off separately in Settings => Interface. F6 is the shortcut for the minimap and V is the one for the coordinates overlay. You can also go in creative "/gm 2" or spectator "/gm 3" mode and fly around trying to find your home. Further, you can use the ".debug find" command to locate a block from your home, but you need to be in creative mode in order to use it. For example: ".debug find bed" or ".debug find firepit"
  13. Well, that's the whole difference. To me, she is a friend and family, and a loved one at that. When my son cought the covid sh*t, she was 24/7 snuggled with him. She is stubborn, intelligent, extremely affectionate. Her personality is a mix of the best traits of dogs and cats. During the day she is usually within 2 meters of my position (I work from home). Needless to say, I love her. She boosted my empaty quite a lot.
  14. Two years ago my wife and my daughter brought home a baby bunny, despite my hard objections of having an animal in the house. I was changed, man. Even my stone headed, furious teenage robot is affected by her love:
  15. Adding 2 layers of dirt at the ceiling changed nothing for me. My walls are entirely stone and full chiseled blocks. There must be something else you changed...
  16. Why nobody said anything about the cute bears? I was peacefully harvesting the tree farm when I noticed this guy and was about to turn it into needle cushion, as I do normally with his black and brown relatives, but then I realized he is not attacking the nearby animals... He even ran away from me when I approached. I didn't even knew that pandas are in the game... Jumped into creative to take this screenshot:
  17. The min/max decay rate depends mainly (only?) on the climate. If it stays the same when you seal yourself in, this is the best you can get at this place. A fun fact is that having non-full blocks in the cellar walls f*cks up (increases) the numbers. E.g. if the cellar is 6x6x6 and the floor is stone path blocks or the ceiling is mainly slabs and stairs (so effectively you can use 6x6x5 area), the decay rates are higher compared to when the floor and/or ceiling are full blocks, regardless of the fact that below these non-full blocks are full ones and they are still within the max allowed size of 7x7x7...

  19. You are very welcome. Here are some other options you can try: /debug cs - Forcefully resends the current chunk the player is in /debug cr - Forcefully completely relights the chunk the player is in and all of them within one chunk of it /wgen regen 1 - Regenerate chunks around the player. This will erase everything built within 1 chunk around you, so you might want to move away from the base a bit before attempting this...
  20. This is quite unfortunate.... I have experienced this (or very similar crash) at least a dozen times and every time moving away from the chunk fixes the glitch. Have you tried teleporting away with "/tp"? Also there might be a hint what's wrong somewhere in the log files (mine are in [drive]:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\VintagestoryData\Logs)... If you try another world (e.g. singleplayer), do you experience the same sh*t?
  21. You mean you went in spectator mode, moved out of the original chunk and the issue was not fixed?
  22. Lightning strikes can put things on fire as well. Currently any POI in my world with flammable stuff in it has a lightning rod stuck in the sky nearby...
  23. Sometimes the chunk you are in will not render properly... If you can, go in spectator mode "/gm 3" and move away from this chunk or teleport some distance away. There is also ".debug redrawall" which redraws all chunks. If you don't have access to any of these commands you may ask server moderator to help you out. Personally, going in spectator mode and moving into a neighboring chunk always fixes this problem for me in my single player world.
  24. I strongly dislike them. One of these turned my front lawn into a slaughterhouse. Unlike in real life, in this game I am a vegan, so there were a lot of bunnies, pigs, sheep, trash pandas etc. around my home. Until one morning my character woke up and found dozens of corpses piled at the front door and the fat ass of a bear bastard slowly walking away. As the sight of a dead bunny (even a drawn one) makes me go ballistic instantly, the bears joined the wolves in the Red book of endangered species in my world and are ferociously exterminated on sight ...
  25. Please excuse me, this is a stupid question (English is not my native language), but you do build a firepit on top of the wood piles and light it, right? You don't put the wood directly on fire?
