  1. I... wow... just, wow... Well done sir (Gonna peruse this list and see if there's anything I want to add to my own game!)
  2. I was originally thinking of making it a simple crap-shoot where some trees simply never become old growth no matter how long you wait, but maybe that chance could be influenced by things the player does, such as your fertilizer idea, and possibly by how closely the temperature and humidity of the location suits the tree species in question...
  3. Oh! Oh! What we need is a Weather Windchime mod. "Always know the weather by the sound of your wind chimes without leaving the safety of your bed!" Clear tones = sunny Vibrato tones = rainy Staccato tones = icy Dull tones = snowy Receding tones = tornado
  4. If you are using the HUD Clock mod it already shows current wind speed, but for people who prefer a more immersive experience with fewer screen overlays, this seems like a great idea! Hey, @SaltyWater this appears to be right up your alley, as you've got a bunch of experience with sound-based mods like Forest Symphony. What do you think?
  5. Farseer... basically Distant Horizons Lite for Vintage Story, but better, because it can generate LODs for chunks you haven't visited yet. Awesome! I'd load it right now but for the fact that the latest comment on the mod is about it not working properly with the Rivers mod, which I am also using. Gonna keep a close eye on this one while it cooks a little longer. Thanks for the recommendation!
  6. You've been telling Bonnie-n-Clyde stories for a while, so I guess this glitch isn't new with 1.20.10, correct?
  7. I've been contemplating a mod, provisionally titled Zippy's Old Growth, that tracks all player-planted trees and, using a randomized timer, "upgrades" them to a larger, old growth version -- probably after, say, 2 or three in-game years. The end effect would be that, if you plant a tree and leave it long enough you'll get a really big one. I figure it would be nice for in-game landscaping without having to pop into creative. I don't want to reinvent the wheel though. Do you folks know of any mods that already do something like this? I've had a look through the modDB but I can't see anything.
  8. But cutbacks were a-coming and ole 'brine-y lost his job Now he's haunting this place and we call him Salty Bob! (...with deepest apologies to The Arrogant Worms...)
  9. Episode 4 Night of the Glitching Undead Wherein we deal with a slightly unsettling game glitch, cope with multiple rustworld critter incursions, dig our first pit kiln, and finish up chilling out by the firepit doing some clayforming and meal prep. https://youtu.be/28RA5PC8LLc
  10. Has anyone else experienced this particular glitch where one (or more) rustworld mobs just stands there doing nothing? You can hit it but it never dies, and it never fights back -- like it's there and not there at the same time. They also never despawn; you have to save and reload to get rid of them. This has now happened to me twice, once with a shiver on a server my son and I play on and once in the video linked below. Both worlds had been upgraded to 1.20.10. I'm trying to determine if this is a bug in the core game or a mod conflict of some kind. The linked video below shows an instance of this, starting at time index 3:54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28RA5PC8LLc&t=234s
  11. Aaaand... I find that mod very tempting... If your machine is beefy enough you should try Water Weather Simulation. If you've ever been frustrated by lakes that only freeze where the chunks are loaded, this does exactly what it says on the tin.
  12. Don't feel compelled to. I was just being a little flamboyant and trying to tease you.
  13. um... ape grapes... ? Should I be... concerned?
  14. Congratulations! You've beat my 13-year-old son, who has (at last tally) 84 mods; although he's totally into all the electricity/engineering mods and seems to be adding something new on an almost daily basis, so maybe he'll catch you up soon... I don't see any of my mods in that list <Italian Mama Accent> Watsa matta? You don't like my cooking?
  15. Well, yeah. I'm not denying that you could totally load 1000 simple block patching mods easy-peasy, but that would be a rather contrived circumstance, don't you think?
  16. While your explanation is entirely plausible, in this case I think it is highly improbable. I did a quick search of the ModDB and @BlueSteelAU doesn't appear to have published anything. Also, while he's been a member since 2020 he's only posted to the forum 3 times, so unless he's super-engaged over on Discord I doubt he's writing his own mods. (Of course he is welcome to chime in at any time to confirm or deny this!). I strongly suspect his 279 mods represent a cross section of what is on the ModDB, and even if only one third of them are code mods, that's still almost a hundred competing C# patches and additions. Eep! Also, speaking from my own mod writing experience, simple JSON-only content mods can run into patching conflicts too. The patching syntax, being simply index-driven, is very brittle and breaks easily if some other patch messes with the same JSON file. Which brings me back to my original opinion of "In the name of all that's holy, how did he ever get 279 mods to work?"
  17. Dude over here claims to be running 279 mods, which I think is absolutely insane. I'd really like him to post a list of what he's running...
  18. Okay, first my Linux pedigree: been using it since the mid 90s both privately and professionally as a programmer/sysadmin/systems architect. My personal-use Linux timeline goes: Yggdrasil Linux, Slackware, Debian, Ubuntu 6 thru 16, back to Debian, and recently NixOS (because apparently I like pain) I'm a longtime Debian grognard, and I have run Vintage Story, Minecraft, and my Steam library on Debian Bookworm/Trixie with no problems at all (using Nvidia graphics no less!). On the other hand, you can't go wrong with Linux Mint. It's got a really user-friendly installer, has the super-easy-to-use Cinnamon desktop, as well as a great support community with tons of searchable documentation. (I'm running Mint on a laptop in my server room that is a dedicated qbittorrent node.) Right now I'm using NixOS, which has a number of unique features that really appeal to me as a programmer/sysadmin, but it is not for inexperienced users. That being said, I use it as my primary desktop and play Vintage Story, Minecraft, and my Steam Library without any problems, including running Prism Launcher for Minecraft and VS Launcher for Vintage Story. Whatever you decide on I cannot emphasize strongly enough that you should install a distro that supports Flatpak apps. The Vintage Story flatpak just works; one-click-install and you're golden. The same goes for the Steam flatpak and Prism Launcher if you are into Java Minecraft. Flatpak is your friend in this. I hope this helps.
  19. Well, ya know, Tyron has the same number of letters as Jonas... do you think that's just a coincidence? <wink, wink>

  22. Join me on a solo play through of a somewhat modded world with rivers and an extended world height. Episode 3: Quest For Cattails Now broadcasting in Super Zip-O-Vision (aka 1440p)! For the previous two episodes, no matter how good the quality of my original upload, YouTube's conversion process was making them look like they'd gone through the digital equivalent of a meat grinder. Research informed me that uploading in 1440p or higher resolution sends your video through a different processing pipeline with better results. Since I actually record and edit in 1440p it wasn't difficult to upload in it, except that, on my not-so-fast Internet connection, uploading a video of this length at 1440p now takes multiple hours, which I was previously reluctant to do. It appears, however, to be worth the wait because the quality, even of the down-scaled 1080p and 720p versions, is so much better now. Live and learn. https://youtu.be/TFZYeEzALuQ
  23. My personal schedule just opened up and it looks like I'll be able to release 3 episodes a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday). All future notifications will appear here so that I don't spam the message board with a gazillion new topics. (Also, because I'm an idiot I only just now realized that anyone who is actually interested in my series can simply follow this topic to be notified when new content drops. Easier all 'round for everyone. I learn, slowly. <sigh>)
  24. We Canadians have created a little rhyme to help our southern neighbours visualize temperatures in the “one true system”: Thirty is hot Twenty is nice Ten is chilly Zero is ice
