Hey. Your fangirl is showing. not that I disagree or anything.... >////<
-
you're closer to the truth than you think.
-
That reminds me... might need to take more samples with the propick up and down the length of the mineshaft because I'm pretty sure I didn't go all the way down to bedrock and I'm pretty sure I only took like 3-4 samples the entire mineshaft.

the prospecting gives the chance of finding something underneath you as a permille, not a percent. That is, there is an extra zero in the ‰ symbol instead of the two zeros in the % symbol. The information displayed is as follows: The relative density of the ore compared to how dense the ore can get. The densities are as follows: Ultra High, Very High, High, Decent, Poor, Very Poor, Miniscule. A reading of "Ultra High" means the ore is as dense as it can get. A reading of "Miniscule" means the ore can be present in the area, but in very small quantities. A Very Poor reading of one ore may have a much higher permille reading than an Ultra High reading of another ore. The name of the ore. You can click on the name to see the handbook entry for it. The actual density of the ore in parenthesis, given in parts-per-thousand (‰, notice the second zero at the bottom), based on the column prospected, which represents the average number of blocks in the area that may be of that specified ore should it have spawned. Note that spawning of the ore is not guaranteed. Prospecting results are position-based, not chunk based. You could have many different readings within the same chunk. Prospecting readings are based on the position of the first sample out of 3 taken. I say this because mods like Prospect Together will attempt to make everything chunk-based. This is for the mod's heatmap display of prospecting results in the area. Prospecting results should be similar for 4 chunks in an area because the ore densities are created from a density map generated with the world, at a resolution of approximately 32 blocks. The ore densities will tend to have a more concentrated 'center' and then decrease when moving towards the circumference. So when locating a low density reading of any desired ore, try taking other prospecting samples some distance away in other directions to find an area with a higher reading. By using the heatmap feature of Prospect Together, you can watch the prospecting readings to see where the center of the ore distribution is... again... IF it spawned. A friend of mine and I got an Ultra High reading of Magnetite at like 3.9‰ (which isn't a whole lot) and dug in the area only to find that there was nothing there. We took samples as we were digging using the Node Search mode and got nothing in the entire mine shaft. Also worthy to note that it will not tell you "Tin" when prospecting. You want to look for the ore that smelts into tin, which is Cassiterite.

yeah the Halite really should drop more than 2 salt and the salt domes should be more rare.

you mean like this one? https://status.vintagestory.at/

I now want to build a boat out of ebony.

Also double check that with your port forwarding, that your device's IP hasn't also changed on your internal network behind your router. For example, I gave mine a static IP address at the router so no matter if there's a power outage or something happens it gets 172.16.1.107 as the internal IP. So then I can just set my router to push all traffic on 42420 to that IP instead of having to guess or worry that it might change. Your router interface may vary, but this is how mine looks: These are all internal IP addresses so I don't have to worry about someone trying to browse to my internal network machines. LOL Then for the port forwarding, I have it setup so that all the Vintage Story traffic goes to the serverbox.

Friend gets disconnected from dedicated server

I'm so glad! -
... Your friendly neighborhood blackguard strikes again! EDIT: Story time. Temporal storm. Only medium strength. There's nothing at the door to our house. I open it to look outside and see if I can see Dave. My blackguard friend exclaims, "What are you doing?" and closes the door. I say, "I just wanted to see outside. There's nothing out there!" I open the door again. Nightmare Drifter walks in and promptly hits me. I run away with all 3.2HP left and pull out my spear. Maybe I can out-range and help kill it. The blackguard starts swinging wildly. I get caught in the crossfire. I probably deserved it for opening the door...at night...during a temporal storm.

Friend gets disconnected from dedicated server
Teh Pizza Lady replied to Sincop3's topic in Discussion
Create account or sign in if you already have one Click DDNS & Remote Access in the left <<< menu Click DNS Records Click the green Create Hostname button Enter your desired host name. I put Sincop3_VS as an example. You can choose whatever you want. I chose serveminecraft.net as the domain because there is no servevintagestory.net. Make sure your IP address is correct. Check the Enable Dynamic DNS option. Click the green Create with DDNS Key button Download the DDNS client and install it. When it runs, allow it to simply run in the background. This will help you ensure that your DNS record now always stays up to date with your IP address. Make sure your ServerURL and IP entries in your serverconfig.json file are 'null' With luck, it should work, but if not, then you'll be back here for more help! -
Friend gets disconnected from dedicated server
Teh Pizza Lady replied to Sincop3's topic in Discussion
If you own/control your own router and she does not, then you can setup the port forwarding, there shouldn't be any reason you cannot use a dynamic DNS service like NoIP.com instead. It won't rely on whatever weirdness is effecting Hamachi, and since you're only playing with friends, you don't have to worry about someone else getting your IP address. I strongly recommend giving it a try and seeing if the problem is different or goes away entirely...especially since you are both in the same country. -
Friend gets disconnected from dedicated server
Teh Pizza Lady replied to Sincop3's topic in Discussion
So to be clear you are not on a college campus, you run the server, and your friend is... where? i'm just trying to understand the setup. She could also just not have Hamachi setup correctly. I don't know what you don't tell me haha. -
I'll try to stay near spawn, but mainly because I don't want to venture too far north and have the RA be towards the south... or decide to settle somewhere to the east only to find that the RNG put the chapter 2 locations to the west this time. It just so happens that this makes respawning a little less inconvenient in the event of my untimely death. Now that we can revive each other upon death, I am less picky about respawn location as long as the people I'm playing with don't also die in the process of trying to revive me!

Best Linux Distro for Vintage Story gaming (Nvidia RTX)
Teh Pizza Lady replied to Lingam's topic in Discussion
Was going to recommend a Debian-based distro but I see Mint is already listed. It's my favorite and go-to for anything Linux-related. -
I usually look for: Temporally stable close to reeds close to food sources Once those are satisfied, I can settle pretty much anywhere. My current hovel is in an old ruin that my friend and I have turned into a proper house.

For what it's worth, if you're interested in mods, there are several that add salt from sea water as a mechanic, either by sealing it in barrels, or by boiling it in a pot. I think Primitive Survival is one of them. It adds a LOT of early game stuff that I wish was in the base game and it's one of my go-to mods for improving early game play. If all of the features of the mod don't appeal to you, never fear, they allow you to turn some of it off in the config file.

That's actually a brilliant idea.

Friend gets disconnected from dedicated server
Teh Pizza Lady replied to Sincop3's topic in Discussion
Are you or your friend: using a mobile hotspot or wifi on a college campus? configuring Hamachi correctly? It uses UDP ports that are not open by default College campus networks are NOTORIOUS for implementing CGNAT which interferes with the network tunnels that Hamachi creates. They also like to implement deep packet inspection algorithms which interfere with Hamachi tunnels. Back in the day we used to use Hamachi to play games and we could only get it to work if everyone was either on the college campus or off the college campus, but not if there was a mixture of the two. Try as we might we could not get the network to cooperate. I think we even took it up with the college IT department and the answer was basically an instant "no". If you are on a college network or one of your friends is on a college network, the solution is to open port 42420 on the router of the person hosting the multiplayer game (NOT ON THE CAMPUS NETWORK) and do the appropriate port forwarding there. Then sign up at NoIP.com and get yourself a dynamic DNS name that you can share with your friends. It should work then. -
probably a JSON edit in a mod if I had to guess.

yeah I can definitely see a need for such a block. I had a pretty massive lodge I had built for my hunter and it had large doorways and a huge fireplace between two rooms and it was definitely not counting as a room in several places. unfortunately.
-
Maybe for creative building it would be cool, but I can't really see a use for it in survival or even really a way to craft it. For any enclosed space to count as a room, it has to be within a certain size and the interior faces of the blocks can have no more than 32 voxels missing. Cellars are limited to 7x7x7 in volume and regular interior rooms have a max size of 14x14x14. If you're unsure if the room you're in counts, you can use the /debug room hi command to check and see if it's a room. It will light up green if it is, red if it is not. To remove the highlighting, just run a similar command /debug room unhi Hopefully this helps in the meantime! Good luck with your building and let me be the first to say WELCOME to the forums!

imma just say it TOBG can suck it. VS rules. Even my kids are interested in it over TOBG. I am considering introducing my 8-year-old to it and letting him play with me and my blackguard friend...provided he understands that you can't just go around smacking people in the butt for funsies because that's apparently his thing right now...
-
People tried "realistic" terrain by smoothing all the blocks out into smooth terrain adjustments in the other block game. Folks hated it.

from my perspective, you're allowed to have that opinion and share it as long as everyone understands that we don't necessarily have to agree with each other. Your opinion was that while certain forums members got sent to vacation land forever, they still had good points. Points that they made in the worst. Possible. Way. I think others are worried that you not only share those opinions but also the sentiments behind them.
