i think i'm stuck in an artic world... noob help plz
Ryilo replied to Galdor_Mithr's topic in Discussion
With 100k polar distance you should find very hot climate going south for about 30k blocks. How much time it requires depends on the walking speed you have in settings, try walking 1k blocks and time it to get an estimate. -
Sometimes the hitbox doesn't appear, but if you hover over it with the mouse you can see the item description in the top center appear, and you can hit it with an axe to remove it. If I remember correctly, the hit box is at the starting point where you started placing the beam. You can also identify it by the fact that where there is the hitbox you can't place any other block.

I too would like for the map to zoom out more. If there are performance problem tied to too many waypoints placed on the map we could have the map zoom out more and only show pinned waypoints instead of all of them. What if a player pins all of his waypoints? In that case show only a maximum of N waypoints around the center of the map to prevent it from freezing the game (if that is even a problem, I have currently hundreds and hundreds of waypoints and have no problems with the map).

@Flakeinator I have been able to play without the game locking up in the past 2 days. What I did was to delete from the mods folder the mods I wasn't using (they were deactivated in the mod manager), you could try that.
-
I have been having the game lock up on me too, the only relevant log line was saying that a game tick took over than 600ms, the game locks with one core stuck at 100% and memory used by the game continuing to raise. It happens irrelevant of what I do in the game. Sometimes I'm chiseling, sometimes smithing, sometimes just walking to another location... It can happen after 15 minutes of playing or after a couple of hours, and there is nothing written on the logs, so I can't track down the cause.

In my modded game I'm still getting the labeled chests without the label showing, does anybody already know what mod is causing this, before I go and try to disable them one by one?

Let's settle at adding ice cream to the game then!

I've already commented on a similar thread and as I said, there is already too much stuff to do in the game, and adding such survival elements would be a detriment to the game. In the case of diseases / getting hurt: do we let the player heal them at the start of the game, or is he doomed if he hasn't advanced in tech? In both cases it's no fun: If it's trivial to cure the disease/wound, then it's just an annoyance, if not, what is the player supposed to do, start a new world? Some players already think that Homo-sapiens mode or Wilderness survival mode are too hard. Luckily Vintage Story is not just a survival game, it's a block game with some "realistic" (or "believable") elements. It has a more strict advancement path unlike the other block game, so it gives more satisfaction when a task is completed. It's fun, can be difficult, and engaging.

@Aislen When you have a window open in-game, ie the handbook and the inventory, if you click on the menu icon (the three lines) to the left of the X, you can choose "Moveable", then you can move the windows freely and have them side-by-side as suggested by Thorfinn

Remember that you can also crush seashells to get lime! It's not much, 2 per seashell, but it's a start.
-
Remember that you can also use chalk instead of limestone. The problem is that if you spawn in a granite or andesite area, that area is probably going to be very big and you'll have to travel further than 3k blocks (and this is not as big a distance as it may seem, it's less than 2 miles: it's just that in block games the world doesn't scale very well.). Are you looking at the rocks in the surface? If you find chalk rocks on top, dig under the soil. If you haven't put too many hours in the world, try generating new ones until you have at least limestone or chalk near spawn. There's also a mod, "Absolute prospecting" that has a rock search function, but I never tried it, so I don't know if it lists all kind of rocks or not.

Guide: Multiple Parallel Installations of Vintage Story
Ryilo replied to Streetwind's topic in Guides
It is possible to have multiple installations of different versions, and multiple instances for every version. First of all, you have to always use the full version of the game install, and the instructions are in the first message of this thread. Remarks for those who don't know: when the installer asks to uninstall, do not uninstall the old version, and when it asks where to install, install it in a different folder than the previous version. As specified in the first post, you MUST use custom windows shortcuts to launch the game, never launch it from the start menu or default desktop shortcut. PS: I never address linux users, as I think they already know how to do all sort of stuff. -
Some people who had the issue were able to solve it by underclocking the GPU in AMD settings, where the default settings seems to be too high for the card. I don't have an equivalent AMD card at the moment so I can't test it. Here is a video showing how to do it:
-
Have you been able to play the game at all or has it had the black screen from the beginning? Are you on windows 10, 11? What is your processor and graphic card? If you don't know, right click on an empty space of the windows taskbar and click on "Task manager", then on "Performance", then if you click on the left on CPU it tells you what cpu it is(top right), and if you click on GPU it tells you what graphic card it is.

Apparently it has been changed/fixed in 1.21.1, you can try updating. Make a backup first (Folders: Saves, Maps, ModConfig if you use mods)
-
@Som3a You should have received the item "Map to the resonance archives", and by selecting it in your hand and right-click you get an X on the map with the approximate location of the entrance. To give yourself the map type the command: /giveitem locatormap-resonancearchive then try.

I am currently playing as hunter and I use only the bow. I don't understand: "The bow doesn't move up or down"? Yes, it moves in every direction you want while aiming, and even while moving (but if you move the accuracy drops so much that it's useless). It's true that you can't see your prey if it goes in the vegetation, but what I do to hunt boars is this (if you have a good bow and metal arrows): Hit him one time, it runs towards you to attack, hit him a second time when it's close, it runs away in fear, hit it the third and final time. "The bow is always blocking the view": again, how is it possible? What bow are you using? Are you using any mods? Because if you're aiming at something the bow is not in the way at all. Also, recurve bow or nothing, the accuracy bonus at long distances is just better.

trapping Why is my rabbit trap not working? (NOT basket trap)
Ryilo replied to FairyKairi's topic in Questions
This has been nerfed because it would spawn a LOT of rabbits in a farm, free meat and pelts in abundance. Place a basket trap with a carrot on the top of the pillar, they should get trapped. -
It's still working for me in 1.21.1. Take a look at clientsettings.json and make sure that screenWidth and screenHeight match your screen resolution, example: "screenWidth": 1920, "screenHeight": 1080, "gameWindowMode": 0, "windowBorder": 0 ), I have noticed that the first time I installed the game it wasn't set correctly and the window borders where showing.

Oh yeah, I saw this bug too, if you place a vine on a block adjacent to the ground, when you store items on the ground or lean items against the wall with the vine (ie. spears) all kind of wonky things start to happen, items appear and disappear, you can't collect them or you can when nothing appears to be there, etc. Are you using mods? If not, the only thing to do is report the bug
-
What do you mean? If you "follow" a mod you mark it as favorite, and you see all of them in the home section, ordered by the most recent update, and receive a notification every time any of them are updated.
-
I tested it with a carrot and was able to trap it.

I'm disappointed by the bottom and top roof shapes
Ryilo replied to Johnny Blood's topic in Questions
Take a look at the mod named one-roof -
With a windmill you can have helve hammers connected, and you can use them to turn iron bloom into iron ingots, blister steel into steel and to make metal plates, it saves a lot of time. Then there is a mod that lets you use the helve hammer to make the other things that otherwise you'd have to do manually. I prefer to put the animals inside a big barn for realism and to better manage them, as I don't have to worry about animals or monsters while I feed/harvest/move them. Don't forget lightning rods to avoid getting them killed.
